First fertility appointment

Hi all

I have my first fertility appt tomorrow and I'm feeling pretty sick about it!

I don't know what to expect other than a load of embarrassing questions about how much sex we have 🙈😫

I've got a cyst that's about an inch, the ultrasound lady called it an endometrioma. It causes me a huge amount of pain so I really want it removed. I'm not too sure if cysts are linked with fertility. Anyone know?

Background of endometriosis (lap in my early 20s and lasered), low AMH, unsure if ovulate, cycle lengths all over the place and hubby's SA came back slightly lower than normal.

I don't know why I'm writing all this really. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself I guess.

Sorry to hear of your struggles. I had my first appointment a month or so ago. We had my bloods taken, a scan and sperm test (my gp doesn’t do this anymore apparently so straight to the fertility clinic for us!). We get our results back next week. We were asked the general sex questions, if we smoke, lifestyle etc. It’s not too bad and they are used to it so I wouldn’t worry about that. It is worrying but at least it’s a step in the right direction? Let me know how you get on, good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply @Ohluckyme

Sorry to hear you are going through the same 💐☹️

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. As you said, lots of sex and lifestyle type questions. We were there for ages. It was NHS so I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of time they took with us. I was weighed and had blood pressure done too. Outcome is for a laparoscopy and a thing to check if my tubes a blocked, where they put dye through you. They'll do it at the same time as the lap. Can't remb what it's called! Also repeating my AMH bloods.

My hubby had his SA and I had an internal scan and loads of bloods and my MMR two vaccines done before we were referred. Funny how different areas and hospitals do things in different orders.

All in all it was a fairly ok experience. I was worried I'd get all emotional but I was ok. Just got a bit sweaty with the sex questions 😂

How long will you have to wait for your next steps? xx

Ah I’m glad you got through it ok.

The dye test can make you feel very queasy so take some one with you. I had to sit down for quite a while.

I was told my AMH level was none existent and there was no point in trying, but got the opportunity to go to a private clinic. I’d read that wheat grass was very good at cresting new cells (or something like like) so I chugged back loads daily and at my private clinic six months later they were fine and we harvested 13 grade A eggs. I really don’t know if it was the wheatgrass but something changed!

Your at the start of a very long roller coaster but try and hang in there and enjoy it.

I had two blocked ovary and as I said above base line AMH. But now I managed to two girls out of the treatment.

Good luck !

I've also got several endometriomas. I've had a 6cm one for years. They're finally talking about removing it. However I got pregnant with it there six years ago which I think was just a lucky shot! We've been trying for number 2 for around 4 years and I've been on clomid for a few months. My November appointment has now been put back until next year frustratingly. Sorry I think I'm digressing! I've never really been asked how much sex I have but have so far had a smear test and blue lap and dye. Good luck!

@Johndoe10 thanks so much for telling me your experience. So glad there was a happy ending 😊

In what form did you have wheatgrass? Tablets or juice or something? Never heard of it for eggs!

It's so hard to know what to believe isn't it! I can't see how your results could go from 0 to grade A! So happy they did tho!!

I've heard that about the dye thing. I'll be under general anaesthetic so I'm glad about that 😂

I feel encouraged by your comments, so thanks x

@myusernameisnotmyusername thanks so much for replying to me.

I guess when you've been trying so long it's a bit insulting to ask how much sex you're having 😂 4 years is a really long time. I hope you get your happy ending soon 😊

I get such a lot of pain from my cyst so even if it doesn't help fertility wise I'll be so glad for some relief. So frustrating your appointment has been pushed back ☹️

Hope we can all keep in touch and keep chivvying each other along xx

Good luck with your lap. I had mine a few months ago and hoping after removing an endometrioma and some other adhesions my fertility will increase! Time will tell!

@mouse1234567 thanks for popping a reply on 😊 how did you feel after? I had one a really long time ago and my cuts got infected and I was off work for 3 weeks feeling rough. Did you have much time off? Reallllllly hope it works for you 👍🏻 x

Oh sorry to hear that squirrel-I was lucky no infection or anything. I’m a teacher so did it in the summer hols so could relax after. After one week I felt a lot better and after two I felt totally normal-the stitches had disappeared etc. It does seem to vary for people though.

There’s a trying to conceive with endo thread at the moment which I’m finding very supportive -you could have a look at that -lots of ladies in the same position!

Ah that's good to hear it wasn't too long a recovery! @mouse1234567
Ooh what's it called? I end up spending hours trawling through hundreds of threads. Sometimes I feel good for it... other times I don't 😂🙈 So glad to be able to talk to people about it... I'm very private in RL. Xx

@squirrelnutkins1 I’m glad that hear it wasn’t as bad as you thought!

Well the doc says next steps for me is probably straight to ivf as I previously had an ectopic (with a tube removed) so he thinks my remaining tube is rubbish! My appointment for results of SA and bloods is on Tuesday so we’ll make a decision from there. But I don’t think there’s an ivf waiting list so I hope is fairly quick! When do you go in for your lap?

squirrelnutkins1 · 25/09/2018 20:30

Oh wow, hope it all moves quickly for you! Waiting times seem to vary massively depending on what area you live. So sorry about your ectopic ☹️ all the best for SA results x
He said 6-12 weeks but may get a cancellation slot. Feeling a bit nervous but glad things are moving forward at least x @Ohluckyme

Well I plucked up the courage to chase my lap date and blood results.... lap is provisionally early Jan but I'm on the cancellation list... so hopefully it'll be sooner. Also my AMH level is apparently normal!!! It's quite the miracle as it was very low when I had it done before.....!! I've asked the secretary to go back and check for me!!

In need of a hand hold! I've got my lap and HSG tomorrow. So nervous. Sooo wish it was a morning slot but it's afternoon. Argh.
It's all getting a bit real. Cycle 17 and no BFP. Glad things are moving forward but equally scared what they'll find 😳
