Can't try for 3 months... clocks ticking

Firstly can I just say I joined here less than a week ago and I'm addicted, it's soooo comforting knowing there's others out there who can relate and it's also nice speaking anonymously.

Anywho...

So basically we're ttc and nothing's been happening so saw GP. she wanted to ensure I was immune to rubella. Had the blood test and didn't think a lot to it. Went back for results on Thursday and I'm not immune. No biggy I thought and got booked in for MMR in 3 weeks. I happened to ring the GP earlier to clarify something and they'd had some cancellations so I went this evening to have my chlamydia swab and MMR. the nurse wouldn't give me the MMR as I couldn't 100% guarantee I'm not preg, I mean who can unless you're on your period and even then that's no guarantee 🙄 so basically I have to wait until the first day of my next period. I wish I'd been told that earlier.

Anyway, my cycles are all over the place so my next period could be in the next 2-5 weeks... then you can't 'try' after the vaccine, you have to have the second vaccine after 4 weeks... then wait another 4 weeks after that. So basically I'm just devastated tonight that really I'm going to have to wait 3 months before we can start trying again 💔😪💔

Book an appointment for 2 weeks time if you can, and protect until then and then do a test.
Atleast that way its likely it would've shown up if you are and saves the possible 5 week wait.

Good tip. Thanks! I'm just gutted generally. Wish I'd spoken to the GP when we were going to start trying because this would've been raised then. Just one of those situations you can do nothing about. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

My understanding was that it only matters if you're immune to rubella if you are needing ivf treatment. So it shouldn't stop you being referred and getting the ball rolling if you're struggling to conceive?

Otherwise we'd check rubella before anyone started trying to conceive?!?

Think really I'm just looking for a hand hold as feeling thoroughly depressed! Hubby is super busy with work, which is good as it's his own business, but at the mo we're a right pair of miserable stress heads!

No, no, no.

A pregnant woman catching rubella is very dangerous for the foetus. (Blindness and brain damage).

It might not be routine to test all TTC women, but immunity does matter.

We innoculate teenage girls for this very reason.

If OP knows that she doesn’t have immunity, she’d be mad to risk it.

A friend of mine has had the same issue. She has had MMR as a kid but is not immune.

They have now finally allowed her to go ahead with treatment even though she is still not immune.

In the nicest possible way, I'm really not sure this thread belongs in the 'infertility' section.

It's quite insensitive to those with actual infertility issues that your impatience to start TTC should be considered anything other than impatience, regardless of how frustrating it is to you

Also, the guidance is very clear that you should wait for a year of TTC before you see the doctor, or 6 months if you're over 35
You're very lucky to have had any sort of response for them after going in after 3 months

@ten the OP has been trying to conceive for nearly a year, has low AMH and a history of endo. It’s in the post that she mentions in this thread. I think she’s in the right place

Hi, I had my MMR last week. I had it when I was a baby but nothing on my records so as the fertility clinic wanted to know I was covered my GP decided to do it. Still had blood test as well to see if I'm I'm covered but don't see the point in that now. Have to go back 4th September for my second MMR injection and the nurse told me to be careful and not get pregnant until at least 6 weeks after that. They want all tests done before our appointment in October.

I have been trying for nearly 4 years and after about 2 years I had to have a 4 month break for a minor operation. It’s so frustrating at the time but I tried to view it S a mental break from constantly thinking about it all - also gave hubby a break as well! Take the time to relax, look after your health - it goes by quicker than you think!

I was the same, no record but my mum felt sure I'd had it. I know what you mean about it being a bit pointless re testing as you're either immune or not. Some people just aren't but at least you've tried. Seems conflicting info everywhere. Some say don't try for 3 months after, some one month and you've been told 6 weeks. It's all so frustrating but it has honestly gone quite fast. Doesn't seem two minutes since I came home from the docs in tears on a Monday night after having learnt about the whole MMR situation (I then preceded to have a Chinese and a bottle of wine 😂🙈).
Is your appointment for gynae or fertility?
