Fertility tests - advice required

Hi all, we're looking into the option of having some of the fertility investigations done privately due to the length of the NHS waiting list. Does anyone have any advice/experience in Edinburgh. I know a little more about Spire/Bupa but they seem a lot more expensive for the same tests as GCRM.

Any advice from personal experience welcomed!

Hiya,

I have no experience of clinics in Edinburgh but we are using GCRM in Glasgow and they are very good. Went with them based on several recommendations and their success rates seemed to be best for Glasgow area. We did the same and bypassed the nhs for testing as it was taking quite a long time and all I could hear was the tick tick of my biological clock x

Thanks Windy, I think some of the tests we would have to go through to Glasgow, so it's good to hear positive about them!

Did they want to redo any of the GP tests (bloods, SA etc), or were they happy to accept what had already been done? Just thinking that if they will want to redo everything then costs will quickly start to add up

There's no point repeating the ones that have been done already as long as you have copies of the results.

I'm from London, got diagnosed abroad and the private clinic here was happy to just go by our results. It was the NHS that insisted on re-doing things and adding some other irrelevant tests and generally time-wasting.

Hiya, we pretty much went straight to them. Paid for sa for hubby and ovarian assessment for me. However, when we decided to proceed they advised we go back to gp to get hiv and hep tests etc so that we wouldn’t have to pay them to do them, which I thought was good. I know someone who had had all tests done on nhs and they were happy to accept them. X

Thanks guys Smile we've finally been referred by our GP for more tests (only after 18 months ttc), but as it's such a long wait for even the initial consultation, we're hoping that having some tests done privately to move things along a bit quicker.
