Planning for 2?

We have 2 frozen embryos which we were planning on using next year. We don't have any dc so would be overjoyed with one.

However, after exploring my feelings in counselling I've realised that we may want the option of a sibling at some point if we are fortunate enough to have one dc through IVF.

It was suggested (by fertility counsellor) that we could do a 2nd fresh cycle with the aim of getting a few more embryos so that if we decide 3 years down the line to have a 2nd we will at least have the option. We haven't mentioned this to our consultant (hadn't really realised my feelings until recently!)

Has anybody planned their IVF knowing they might like 2 dc? I know there are no guarantees at all but obviously my eggs are younger now that they will be in 3 years. I'm worried I would regret not having the option. We are on the NHS (self funded though) so I don't know if this is even an option for us.

I know I'm totally getting ahead of myself here as who knows if we'll even have one dc!

This is something that had crossed my mind as I knew I wanted 2 children. My first IVF was a disaster (no Frosties, had to put bad embryos back day 3). So knew in the end we should just focus on here and now.

If you put 2 back and did a fresh round prior and then ended up with twins what would you do with the Frosties? Or if you only put one back and it works then the other one might take at a later date?

Now we have 3 Frosties left and 1 y/o twins. Having the Frosties feels weird.

Thanks Water Firstly congrats on you twins! We have decided that we would only put one embryo back at a time so wouldn't be likely to end up with twins. The clinic have hammered home the risks of twins and it's something we've decided against.

But our consultant said she would expect us to need 3 to 4 embryo transfers to get pregnant (already done one fresh cycle.) That means we could have none left if neither of the 2 work.

How old are you? How are your egg reserves?

In the perfect world, I’d love 3-4 children. We got a lot of blasts from the first round so decided not to do more egg collections. However, it was definitely an option we were considering at first.

However, I think it largely depends on your age and egg reserves. Also, how successful is your clinic? It could be an idea to do another round at a top private clinic as couples tend to get lots more good blasts to work with in the future.

I'm 38 JoJoSM2, nearly 39 though Egg reserves good but I have never ever been pregnant so am worried it may not work for us. I am finally having a fibroid investigated though before we do any more transfers/fresh cycles.

I've posted on here a few times...my last one was about giving up! I'm all over the place to be honest.

Didn't think of that. Not sure we could afford it...and what would you say is a top clinic? We are at Guy's at the moment.
