I don't know if I should delay ivf?

Feeling down today. Due to go to Serum in Athens in January for a consultation to start round 3 of ivf.

But I don’t know if I should delay it. Me and DH have been smoking the odd cigarette and drinking alcoholBlush

Should I give us both 3 months of being good? So hard with Christmas coming up too and Xmas parties.

I’m 39 in a couple of months so time is running out.

WWYD?

You don't have to be perfect to be good and there are lots of ways to be more moderate but still have fun over the festive season.

That said, IVF takes a lot of out you, if don't have it in you to put yourself through it then take a little time - I wish I could say take as much time as you need but you know as well as I do that isn't realistic.

Thanks odd. Our last cycle was in March, I feel like that is plenty of time to go again I’m just feeling like life gets in the way.

I wouldnt delay if it's only a consultation.
I would assume age will have more affect than a few cigarettes.

The odd cigarette and drink is no reason to delay if you otherwise feel ready. Go for it!

I really don't think that's a reason to delay unless you want to anyway. In my experience, the only way to get through the long haul of ivf is to live as normally as possible during the in-between bits. Otherwise it completely takes over. And it's hard to see that the odd drink etc in the preceding months would make any difference to anything. Without too much excess, I'd suggest doing whatever you generally do to have a relaxing and fun Christmas, and don't worry about the treatment until it happens. Sorry you're going through this, fertility treatment is utter misery xx.

Go for the consultant. It’s a chat. You don’t need to decide or do anything after that if you aren’t sure

Saying that at 39 if using own eggs time is ticking

And the odd fag and drink won’t chnage your chances conceiving. So don’t worry - you can’t leave your life on hold

I think I had alcohol during stims too (ie a very small glass of wine here and there). I think I'd definitely go ahead with the ivf but in the meantime make healthy choices as much as possible, e.g. Limit drinking to say 3 drinks a week and perhaps a couple of ciggies on Saturday night if you're struggling to give up completely. But you don't need to be all perfect for things to work.

Thanks all. I’m kicking all the bad stuff in from today! That gives us both time to give us the best chance. Flowers

I hope things are going well. Do what you can but don't expect to be perfect, you'll drive yourself mad and there's no proof it makes a great deal of difference.

Hiya oddboots.

I smoked 2 cigarettes on Tuesday night and half last night but that’s it.

It’s CD1 again today Sad. So I’ve booked my flights and hotel for my consultation at Serum in January.
