IVF 2 empty sacs seen :0(

Hi i wonder if anyone had come across this before. We recently were thrilled to have a BFP after IVF when two embryos were implanted. At 7 weeks i got some spotting and went to get an early scan. Two gestational sacs were seen but both were empty :0( My hcg bloods show a 30% rise over 48 hours. I need to go back for a rescan. A part of me is hoping for a miracle but i am realistic to know that this is not good news. My question is how likely is it that both would be blighted ovums? Also we have some frozen but does it mean that the frozen embryos are also likely to fail? I just wondered if anyone had any experience please...

I can't really help you with your question but I did want to say how sorry I am that you have to go through this. I had a blighted ovum diagnosed about 4 years ago and it was a horrible mindfuck, as well as everything else that goes with a miscarriage. I expect the clinic would be the best place to ask your questions, but in the meantime Flowers

No experience but this is such bad luck Sad

Were your embies blasts? Do you know what their grading was?

It’s bad luck- it doesn’t mean it will happen again.

Very sorry. I had a blighted ovum a few years ago- I had to have an Erpc in the end. It’s like a really unfunny joke- you’re pregnant! Oh no you’re not!

Fingers crossed for you. And Flowers

Thank you everyone. They were 2 5 day blasts of "excellent quality". Im not sure of the grade...

But for the same problem to happen to both is making me worried about egg quality. Im 39 so know my eggs aren't going to be that great any more :0(

TBH I don’t think the grading really helps. Even if they look excellent, it doesn’t mean they are genetically sound, and they can’t tell this from what I understand.

However- that doesn’t mean all your eggs are bad! You’ve just been unlucky so far IMO. Otherwise people in their late thirties and later wouldn’t get pregnant.

Oh I see you have frozen embryos- that’s a great position to be in. You must have a decent egg reserve. I only got 2 eggs in total when I did ivf!

We retrieved 8 eggs in total but 4 weren't good enough for freezing

Sounds like a good clinic to get so many eggs and blasts :) Very unfortunate with the first two but not reason why the Frosties wouldn’t thrive. Good luck!

Yes this happened to me :( empty sac seen at 6 week scan, stopped cyclogest and ended up miscarrying at 9 weeks after failed attempt at medically managed miscarriage at 7 weeks and a night in hospital. This was all after a failed frozen transfer a few months earlier and losing my son at 20 weeks before that. I’m now 34 weeks pregnant.

All embryos were blasts and all graded 4BB and above.

If you can afford it, I’d suggest PGS testing on your frozen embryos.

Best of luck!

Depends where you get it done and how many embryos you’re testing. We never did it but was told between £3-8k

I would advise against spending money on PGS. Human blasts are mosaic by nature and these tests are very inaccurate. Have a look at the study below for example.

Hi Again i hope you don't mind me asking. Your current pregnancy, was that from the same cycle as your 6 week mc?

Hi Flameredbus, I’m sorry to hear your news, I’m also in a very similar situation to you, had 2 top quality embryos transferred in October but due to bleeding and pain had a 5 week scan which showed 2 sacs, sadly I miscarried a few days later. We have 1 frostie, a hatching top quality blast, and hoping we have better luck with it. I wish you all the luck too xx

@Flameredbus yep. Here’s my cycles:

Fresh: 15 eggs, 3 to blast. 1 embryo transfer resulting in BFP, sadly went in to pre term labour and gave birth at 20 weeks losing our baby son.

FET: 1 didn’t survive the thaw, the other was transferred. BFN.

Fresh #2: 21 eggs, 5 to blast. 1 embryo transferred resulting in BFP. Empty sac at 6 weeks. Miscarry at 9 weeks.

Wait for first period after miscarriage and was allowed to do FET...

FET #2: 1 embryo thawed and transferred. BFP. C-section scheduled for 38+4!

Also had a natural chemical pregnancy between giving birth and failed FET #1
