Losing weight for IVF when I have PCOS

Hi

I have a BMI of 40 currently and have struggled over the last 2 years to lose weight. I've managed to lose 2 stone and keep this off but it's getting quite impossible to continue getting weight off. I have a healthy diet and exercise a few times per week.

I have polycystic ovary syndrome and I know this makes it very difficult to lose weight.

I've recently found out that I am fully fertile but for my husband and I to have children I need IVF treatment.

I need to reduce my BMI from 40 to 35 to go privately and need it down to 30 if I want to use NHS

Does anyone have any inspiration or advice as I'm finding it very difficult?

Could you ask your GP for a referral to a dietician? I think there's something you're missing on if you think your diet is healthy + you exercise yet you're so obese. I'm sorry but it just doesn't add up even if your metabolism is on the slow side due to health problems. Also, do you know how your thyroid is, whether you're suffering from insulin resistance etc? All those medical issues should be addressed and they might help a little bit with weight loss.

Hi OP. Us ladies with PCOS are more likely to have weight issues but its not extremely difficult to lose weight. I got down to BMI 28 to have treatment on NHS. I'd strongly recommend you do as the above poster says and see doctor about dietician and thyroid check..or join slimming world - thats what worked for me. I'd definitely want to get down your BMI as much as you can for NHS treatment, IVF IS 6-10 thousand privately, and there's no guarantee it will work first time especially with a bmi over 30.
Good luck
