2 fertilised eggs- will they make it to blastocyst?

Hi ladies,
First time posting on here. Super nervous/ excited and all the other emotions that come with IVF/ICSI. Have two fertlized eggs...advised to wait to blastocyst stage day 5 before transfer but so stressed that neither will make it. Any feel good stories for something similar? Trying so hard to stay positive and think about anything else but totally can't focus on anything now. Result for blastocyst transfer (whether we can do it) on Wed

I only got 2 mature eggs on my last cycle, both were implanted and I now have 7 month old twins. Just remember it's quality over quantity. It only takes one! All the best

Yep Agree. Quality counts above numbers for sure.

Thanks guys. Less than 24 hours to know if they survived to day 5. Any tips for post transfer (hopefully it happens!)

Are they giving you daily updates?

No they said they don't check them again until the day of the blasto transfer (tomorrow) but will tell us early morning if there won't be a transfer at all to save us going in. I am absolutely terrified. Trying so hard to be positive but even that has me on edge.

Gosh - that's harsh making you wait it out until the morning of transfer day. No wonder you feel terrified! Hope you get great news tomorrow!

Oh wow- so you don't actually know if they made it to to day 3 or not?

I got daily updates from my clinic on how the embryo was doing.

They made it to day 3 but was recommended that I wait till day 5 and was told that not all day 3 eggs make it to day 5 for blastocyst transfer. Apparently if you wait until day 5, and it survives until then chance of live birth is higher. Totally new to all this so just doing what I'm told by them.
I just tried to call them to see with no luck. I know it only takes one good one but with only 2 to use I feel like it's a miracle if it works.

I hear you- I felt like that- and I only had 1 embryo! But it does happen!

Argh, it's stressful isn't it? I've just been thinking about this a bit... I with the London Women's Clinic and had 8 eggs fertilised on my last cycle. They called me on day 1 (day after EC) to tell me this and then said they wouldn't check them again until day 5, as they thought that checking them disturbs there development. So I had a horrible wait until day 5, wondering if any had even got to day 3 stage. The embryologist said that they avoid day 3 transfers because if they don't make it to day 5, it's unlikely that they'll implant at all, so may as well wait untill day 5, even if it turns out that you have nothing to transfer. How common is this view, I wonder? Have any of you heard the same/anything different? I might insist on a day 3 check on my next round. Three cycles down and no pregnancy yet...

Hi patiently waiting- that's exactly what my clinic told me. They said if they don't make it to say 5 in the lab they probably wouldn't have made it had they transferred on day 3. Did yours just not make it to day 5 or did they transfer but no luck. It's so stressful and I think each clinic is different too.

Hi! This was exactly where I was at this time last week!
2 fertilised, transfer provisionally booked for day 3. Both made it to day 3 and were liking good. Both hung in there for a day 5 transfer on Saturday! We're now 3 days post transfer and trying not to symptom spot! It does happen, please try to stay positive Grin

Good luck with the next round patiently waiting.

Stared at my phone all morning terrified it would ring and they would cancel the transfer. Luckily they didn't and I had the transfer done. :-))) now I am waiting until next Friday for pregnancy test. Jenga- when do you hear your results?

For those who had transfer done- is it normal to have some pain / weird feeling around your ovaries / uterus after? Might just have been the way they put it in.

Great OP. Good luck!! Try eating pineapple core - something to do with helping implantation.

Report
Danaust · 26/04/2017 23:08

Great news. First cycle I did the whole pineapple core, Brazil nuts thing and got pregnant. Final cycle I did none of that and got pregnant Smile so it's definitely not essential otherwise it would be part of the treatment regime!

Re symptoms my last cycle I was convinced I wasn't pregnant as I felt like I was getting my period ( exact same cramping and pains etc) for about 9 days after transfer, then it stopped day 10 and I tested at home and it was positive. That said it could also be due to the progesterone as it mimics pregnancy symptoms...it's a mindf*ck to say the least as I found during the 2ww i was constantly reading into every twinge and cramp. The best thing to do is stay busy-easier said than done I know from experience!
