Had stupidly irregular cycles (mostly very short - 18 days is the norm) since coming off the pill to ttc DS. He is now two and we have been ttc number 2 for a year, cycles getting worse. Had a very early mc last autumn (due to my stupidly short cycles I'd got my back, known for a week and mc'd by CD 25)

Finally went to see if anything could be done about my cycles, I hoped it would be a case of getting some form of hormone support to regulate my cycle, but I did have an inkling it wasn't going to be that simple.

Turns out my day 3 FSH is 29. Coupled with my cycles it's not looking good. We have been referred straight to fertility services and are waiting on the results of the (pricey!) AMH test to see if there's any point in trying ivf.

Aside from being gutted that another pregnancy isn't looking likely, I'm concerned about my own health as its looking like I am facing menopause in the not too distant future. Just wondering about any personal experiences to spark questions to ask at our consultation in early May. The reality hasn't really sunk in yet, I know we will expand our family somehow, but it's all feeling very uncertain at the moment. Any input at all gratefully recieved.

Hi littlefunny - don't despair! There is loads you can do naturally to improve your cycles, and an FSH of 29 in my experience is rescuable. I was diagnosed a year or so older than you and my FSH was higher. After hearing from fertility docs that there was nothing really that could be done I went on a health regime of no caffeine, no alcohol, no/low sugar, saw a Chinese medicine doctor who prescribed herbs twice a day plus acupuncture once a week. Did daily meditations and took loads of vitamins - key ones you need are coq10 and dhea. Plus vit d and Agnus castus. Read The Infertility cure by Randine Lewis and Inconceivable by Julia Indichova. I was able to get my cycles back, and then six months in to the regime started taking the hrt that the western med doctor recommended. That same month I got pregnant and it all went swimmingly. If you still have cycles I would just work on lengthening them thru Chinese medicine and improving your egg quality. Also read 'It starts with the egg'. Don't focus on the amh result - mine was so low it was undetectable..... don't put the doctors in charge of you, they will tell you nothing really can be done but it's well worth trying as my darling toddler proves!! Please ask anything else I've been working on this for a looong time. I'm sorry you've had the diagnosis, it's rubbish. You sound very together about it, well done.

My fsh was 12 age 34. My amh was 2.8. Was told it would be hard to conceive naturally and that I needed to do ivf asap but that it probably wouldnt work anyway. Sad had no children at the time.

Since then, I've been pregnant 3 times and had 2 live births- 1 via ivf and one naturally....

Egg quality is FAR more important than quantity- just remember- and at 32 your eggs should still be fine!

The main supplement to get in is probably uniquinol (concentrated c enzyme q10( for egg quality.

Hi littlefunnybooboo
Some time passed after you've wrote your post..Have you got your amh results already? What does your doctor say? Are they going to prescribe some hormone treatment to you? Will they try to stimulate your ovaries? Or maybe it's worth thinking about ivf on donor eggs? Personally I was strictly against that first but on second thoughts gave my consent to that recently seeing no other way out in my case. Looking through some feedbacks about ART clinics here. Wish you luck
