Missed miscarriage pain getting bad again after 5 days

Hi all
I went to the EPU on Monday for an early scan after having some light brown and pink discharge.
I was 10 weeks 5 days and the scan should my baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks 4 days and has no heartbeat.
They explained this was a missed miscarriage and offered me 3 options.
1.Natural method (wait and see what happens), 2. Surgery to remove all the tissues or 3. Medication to prompt my body to finish the miscarriage.
I had the medication and started bleeding within half an hour and passed most of the big clots that day.
The pain was only bad the day I had the medication and then it eased off a lot the following days.
Now it has been 5 days and my pain is becoming intense again.
Bleeding is still ongoing.

This is my second miscarriage although the first was a different experience..

Has anyone else had a similar experience and is it normal for the pain to get bad again?
I'm considering ringing the EPU to ask them.

You should call the EPU. Generally your bleeding and cramping should be getting a little bit better every day. Some women do have a bit of a gush a week afterwards but if the pain is not helped by a hot water bottle or paracetamol or nurofen, it might be a sign that there is blood or tissue inside the womb that can't get out.

Thanks for your response I may have to call 111.
I tried calling EPU but it turns out they are closed on weekends at my hospital.

I am so sorry you are going through this. My experience was slightly different in that I had expectant management (i.e. The natural let it happen one). But timing wise I was only about a week later along than you. I did bleed heavily for a day (I think it was the Friday or Saturday ) with some heavy clots. Thought it was all over, and even went round to a friend for the day the following Tuesday. However, on the Wednesday I started bleeding heavily again and passed the sac and some of the placenta then. Even then I had an incomplete miscarriage and it was another few weeks before all the placenta was passed. So it might be worth popping back to the EPU for a scan just to see what is going on as sadly a lot of clots at the start don't necessarily mean everything has come out. They will tell you that you are right to go. Thinking of you and happy to answer any questions as I really do know how painful and traumatic (physically and emotionally) it can be.

Yes, you should ring 111 if the EPU is closed. You can also go to an A&E if they have Obs/Gynae services there. If your pain or bleeding are getting worse, it can be a sign that there is more tissue or bleeding that can't get out or of an infection.

I have also been through a miscarriage am happy to chat if you like. So sorry you have to go through this.
xx
