Hello lovelies

I'm 43 and possibly going down the IVF route for TTC2.

Being older I'm aware the odds are against me and I'm wondering if I'm wasting our time.

Are there any older mothers out there to share their stories?

I had IVF at 40. We had one round of IVF - I had my son using frozen embryo's from this cycle. I gave birth at 42. I then got pregnant naturally at 43. We were ttc for four years before the treatment.

Hi bluefeathers. We were treated at Leeds General Infirmary. We had unexplained infertility (being over 40). The clinic were very good and I know we were lucky. I wanted to post to say that it can happen. PM me if I can help.

I had my first round of IVF at 39yo, two embryos produced, one frozen and one transferred - successful first time with DS.

Frozen embryo transferred when I was 41, didn't stick.

Second round of IVF just before turning 42, one embryo produced - successful transfer, DD now 2yo.

We were very, very lucky. Possibly helped by DH being a bit younger (4 years younger than me).

You will find plenty of stories of successful IVF for older women, and also plenty of stories of repeated failures. Yes, the odds are against you (and they probably were against me too), but at least you're approaching this realistically. Best wishes with whatever you choose!

Blondeshavemorefun,
Can I ask did clinic alter your treatment plan in anyway to boost success as knew it was your 5th attempt?
Also did you do anything different in preparation?
Many thanks.

They gave me a higher dose of drugs then 1&2 in U.K.

I know it's hit and miss but if too low don't get many eggs - think was 3 in cycle 1 and 1 made it to day 3 and transferred

If too high risk ohss

So a very fine line

I did have 2 era inbetween 4&5

That's mock cycle where check your lining to see how receptive it is

Mine came back saying I needed an extra days drugs

Tho we actually ended up having a weeks extra as away on holiday and ivi Madrid shut for 6w in summer for the actual ivf but open for appointments if that's makes sense

So they said have the extra weeks progynova and once home after holiday we got scanned and lining was still ok. Nice and firm - almost the extra week drugs keeping it stable

Was a risk it would be too think and then not suitable and we would have try again in sept

Had fet week later

Honestly have no idea if the extra weeks drugs kept lining more suitable and hence why bubs stayed attached

When poas 2ww both df and I were omfg

First ever bfp ever !!!!

This was the only cycle that we did nothing as well

As in all the orhers I tried the wife's tales

Lots of protein
3 boiled eggs a day
Keeping feet warm
Eating fresh pineapple day 1/5

Sure theew were others in 1-4

We kinda weee blasé over no 5. Even booked another holiday for 12w later

As so used to failure thought would cheer us up

Turned out from me being a sunworshiper for years I hated the sun while preg

Sat in shade sober with a huge hat on 😂

Also cycle 3 ivi used icsi. Uk didn't - df has good sperm - 3kids in 20's but ivi do as pry of package and sure why we for think 6 embryos to freeze and all day 5 and 2 weew day 6

Compared to 1 in cycle 1 and 3 in cycle 2 - but both 3 days. Said wouldn't last to blast and 5 let alone freezing

Sorry for woffle. Wide awake but tired as I have bubs bouncing on my bladder

But wouldn't have it any other way x

If I can help with anything else please do ask on here or message me
