Infertility

Cyprus for our ivf treatment

Hello all,

Not been around a great deal as had a lot going on in life in general - moving house, working, being ill and imminently becoming grandparents (DH has 2 adult children from a previous marriage).

DH and I have been together almost 3 years, ttc for 2.5 of that time and had all the tests offered to us. All come back normal for age (I'm 45 now, he's 48) except low AMH suggesting poor ovarian reserve and probable low egg count. NHS consultant said only choice was privately funded donor ivf (no NHS treatment as was 43 by then).

Anyway, after some soul searching we decided to go with 1 cycle of ivf and started looking into costs, success rates etc. Found UK out of our budget range so started exploring international options. Well, it appears not only have we found a clinic but, we've had initial discussions with the team - patient coordinator and consultant - and are looking at treatment in the autumn. Success rates in our age group are fantastic (75% average for detectable heart beat at 8 weeks post transfer) and the price is competitive.

Have got an appointment with our gp coming in to discuss the investigations we need doing before we go to Cyprus and to see how we go about organising them, what they'll cost etc.

Really excited to think we've got the chance of parenthood ahead of us.

Hi remember, what great success rates! Are they for using donor eggs or your own?

If my current cycle fails I may look to go abroad but don't know where to start!

Can I ask how much the treatment in Cyprus will be?

Lastly wishing you all the luck and success with your treatment, I'll look forward to hearing all about it x

Thanks for your kind message Goodthings. Those rates are for donor eggs - the consultant, Dr Murat, only offers donor egg treatment to women over 40 as results are so much better.

The treatment is 5000€ (though there's a discount voucher worth 500€ via the website //www.eggdonationfriends.com) and includes everything apart from my drugs and pre treatment investigations - bloods and a scan or two. Accommodation for 2 people for 11 nights half board 4 star hotel for duration of treatment, transfers from airport to hotel and between hotel and clinic plus a few other things is 1000€.

Everything so far is free of charge including calls with consultant and the clinic choosing a donor by matching appearance and education levels etc.

Thanks so much for the information and it does sound much cheaper than treatment here.

Thanks again and wish you all the luck and success xx

Thank you. I am impressed so far and hope that continues right through our process as, at 45, thus is likely to be our last chance - unless I win the lottery!!

Good luck, we are looking into IVF abroad soon. We just need to save up but I've got time on our side luckily. We've been trying for 4 years, realistically can't afford IVF but we will try and hope for a miracle in the process.

Good luck. I went abroad to SERUM in Athens and I now have twins. Best decision of my life to go abroad. Good luck

Got our list of blood tests and medications from the clinic and we're off to see our gp next week to get the ball rolling.

We're hoping that the bloods can be done easily. 1 of the medications I'm already on; one is available over the counter and so I'll only need 1 prescribing - and we hope our GP can do that privately without referring on to a consultant.

We need a copy of the HyCoSy I had done in 2015 but it looks like we won't need any other tests doing as things stand at the moment.

Hi

I'm 42 and my husband had vasectomy about 12 years ago. So we have decided we would love to try and have a baby together x
I don't want to use Donor eggs and am aware that my eggs my be past their sell by date so prepared for no baby if that's the case 😕
I have made appointment with GP to get bloods done and see where we go from there x

Can I ask which clinic your looking at? I've been looking into team miracle (Cyprus ivf centre) and serum. It's so hard to make a decision. Good luck

Been a few months. Hope you went and had a successful cycle @rememberallball

De are often successful due to age of donor and again as young often have a few to freeze

I so hope you got your dream to become a mum.

I went to ivi Madrid after two fresh cycles in uk tho used own eggs tho was 42 and got preg on 3rd go / 5th in all as has some frozen

Always said if that failed we would have used de for a last try

It amazes me how much cheaper abroad is for ivf and de

I used Eurocare IVF in Cyprus and had IVF with donor eggs 6 months ago. I didn't get pregnant and am looking at heading back to Cyprus for another try early next year.
I want to try a different clinic. Any advice or recommendations?

Hi @ClareW00,

We're off next week to Gynolife in Nicosia. We did get in touch with Team Miracle but they never responded to us and the other clinic we contacted took almost a month to get back to us which didn't fill us with confidence.

Can say I'm really happy with the unobtrusive contact from Gynolife as they get in touch regularly but, often, just to find out how we're getting on and what's happening in the UK - or even just to chat about the weather. No pressure to rush the process (we've had to save up which has taken time).

Really recommend them so far.

Hi @Wolves85,

No updates yet but we travel out in the next week to Nicosia.

Good luck, have you picked a clinic yet?

Hi @blondeshavemorefun,

Thanks for your kind words. We travel next week so should know towards the end of November!!

The difference in pricing is amazing so I don't understand why the UK charges so much - many of us who travel abroad would stay in the UK if only treatment was more reasonably priced and if more egg donors were available.

@PandaBbear,

I will let you know when we come back but, as I've said above, I've been impressed by Gynolife so far.

Hi all,
I'm new to mumsnet and am about to start a DE IVF cycle in Greece in the new year. I'm 39 at the moment but 40 is fast approaching. I have had 3 goes at IVF...1st - got 2 eggs both fertilised, one normally and was put back at day three- BFN. Then 2 more cycles cancelled due to a poor response to the meds and only 1 follicle. So that brings me to DE cycle. I would really love to hear your stories both positive and not so much...especially if you had DE IVF abroad as I'm trying to be sensible, realistic and hopeful all at the same time and finding it hard.
Mandy x

We have 12 fertilised eggs after egg collection last Wednesday. On day 3 post fertilisation 6 were grade 1 excellent, 2 more are grade 1 good as developing a little slower and the remaining 4 are classed as good but slow so still got potential to catch up. ET us booked for Thursday and, on Wednesday, they will let us know what time the clinic will send their driver for us. In the meantime they will freeze the embryos till optimum day for transfer.

Today we're going to do the tourist thing and visit Kyrenia which us the local city to where we're staying. Beautiful weather here this morning so think we've picked a good day for it!!

Las test news is that we have 4 day 5 blasts frozen ready to transfer on Thursday - not sure what happened to 4 of the grade 1 embryos other than they didn’t make it to day 5. Nor did the 4 fertilised eggs that were much slower to develop once fertilised

Going to a foreign place. It sounds so daunting

If I ever needed to go abroad for any treatment, then Cyprus would be high on the list. It's one of the most "British" places that isn't in Britain. English is commonly spoken, they even drive on the left and use British electrical sockets. More importantly, the locals actually like the British!

I've had spectacles and suits made there - and couldn't fault the speed, professionalism and pricing. If their healthcare is anything like that, you'll be fine!

We had 3 day 5 blastocyst embryos transferred on Thursday 9th and returned home on Saturday 11th. Now we’re playing a waiting game until my blood test next Tuesday (12dp5dt) which will tell us one way of the other!!
