I'm so excited! We finalized the plans for going to Prague in June to do donor egg ivf! I've got all my meds, I start birth control pills with my period in April.
Now to focus on a bit of weight loss, and start saving for flights!

Rememberallball congrats to you too! It feels like aaaaages away but I'm sure it'll be here in no time! I hope your trip is a success 😊

Masalatea eek that's next month!!!! So exciting, which clinic are you using? We are going to Praga Medica. Mainly as it's easy to get to and we liked the Dr when we met last month on a quick visit while we were in Europe for the holidays. Dh left a sample there so if finances are tight he doesn't need to come with me. We will be coming from the USA so it's not cheap! Still, so much cheaper than here, so it's all good.

blondes thanks! Not long for you now, can't wait to hopefully be in your position this time next year!

Snowdog37 I know!! We are going to Gynem. We visited both them and Praga Medica and for no particular reason chose Gynem, they just felt right for us. You have quite a journey to Prague but I bet it makes sense even with the travel costs. We are in the UK so can't complain about the distance.
Good luck with all the preparations. Time flies, it'll be June before you notice!

I'm looking at places to stay for the week of transfer, and can't decide! Did you find somewhere nice? The place we stayed at in January is lovely but for 7-8 nights it's over €1200 😖

We stayed at this wanna be design hotel (Moods Hotel I think) that was in great location but just OK otherwise. Did the job for couple of nights but wouldn't stay there longer, so unfortunately I can't recommend anywhere. Have you asked your clinic? Some of them have deals with hotels.

Yep the clinics are all about the same price as the one we stayed in January so we might just stick with that one as it was gorgeous and in a lovely location. Even paying for that plus flights plus spending money plus the cycle it's going to be about $7500 which is quarter of the cost of one cycle here.

Exciting @snowdogs. Hope you get your wish

Not sure this will work but went to Expedia and chose distance to clinic
And found these

Works out 250/300 for a week tho depends on dates

Thanks blondes I had a quick look. I think I'm going to go with a package deal I found on Expedia. Flights from here plus accommodation in a decent hotel are around $1800 for 12 days which isn't bad. My dh wants me to be in a safe and nice hotel as I'll be on my own. We decided to save his flight money towards a second trip if we need it in August. That way we know we can just about afford two trips and that increases our chance of success.
Only a month or so til I start the pill! Eek!!!!

What's that cost in my language 😂

It will be hard with dh not being there but understand why doing it this way

Could he maybe fly over for et?

Snowdog37 · 28/02/2017 21:14

It's a lot of moulah in your language!
Flights alone are $1000/£800 or more just for one return flight. The hotel is about $800/£700. The cycle is about £4500. So it's a lot added up. But nowhere near as bad as $30,000/£28,000 or so here!!!

Ouch at £800 a flight. Tho that's what we paid cycle 3 as bloody ec and et was over xmas and new year

But usually £200 return for both df and I

A fet with my a flight for me if the first one doesn't work will be about £1500 plus hotel. So much cheaper. We would rather put dh flight money towards this option in case we need it. I miss living in Europe and having super cheap flights!

Good luck to you all. I have a child conceived via donor egg IVF in the UK. It was a great decision for us and he has brought a great deal of joy to our lives.

Hi CycleHire,

how did you choose your clinic in the UK? About to begin a DE cycle v soon and contacting clinics abroad...but interested in hearing how the Uk matches up- in terms of waiting times etc.
Good luck to everyone on this journey- babydust to you all!
...this is our 4th go (all OE previously) its so hard hitting the positive/realistic balance.

Hello,
We too are planning to do a DE cycle - probably in the UK, so it'd be interesting to hear more about anyone's experience of it here. We've yet to choose a clinic. Good luck to everyone!

De is more exspensive in uk - usually s longer waiting list and at 18 your child can seek out the donor

Abroad is totally confidential - cheaper and usually short wait

Contact a few clinics abroad and ask for their info packs

I'm with Praga Medica Gest in Prague, going over in June for donor egg ivf. They've been great so far. I have an English speaking coordinator who "manages" everything including answering my crazy questions! My Dr is Czech, extremely experienced and kind of abrupt/businesslike. It's definitely a different kind of bedside manner. But, their success rate is over 60% and the prices are amazing. So if I get lucky first time I'll be delighted, but I'm assuming I'll need two trips (which is very affordable compared to USA prices!) and if two aren't successful they offer the third one free with a 90% success rate with 3 trips.

Hi all,
I hope this thread is still going and you don’t mind the late join but I'm new to mumsnet and am about to start a DE IVF cycle in Greece in the new year. I'm 39 at the moment but 40 is fast approaching. I have had 3 goes at IVF...1st - got 2 eggs both fertilised, one normally and was put back at day three- BFN. Then 2 more cycles cancelled due to a poor response to the meds and only 1 follicle. So that brings me to DE cycle. I would really love to hear your stories both positive and not so much...especially if you had DE IVF abroad as I'm trying to be sensible, realistic and hopeful all at the same time and finding it hard.
Mandy x
