Day 3 and day 21 bloods, advice appreciated.(7 Posts)
Hi all, not sure if I'm posting this in the right place so please say if not....I know technically I've only been TTC far a short while but age and egg quality don't appear to be on my side so far.
Just after a little bit of insight as currently driving myself mad waiting for a GP appointment.
I had a MMC last August at 10.3wks, it was my first pregnancy and I was lucky to fall pregnant quickly considering I was 39 at the time. The miscarriage was very prolonged, two ERPC'S and suspected partial molar. It wasn't resolved until mid November when the bleeding finally stopped and I was told it wasn't partial molar after all just 'some other age related genetic problem'
Since then DH and I have been trying again but my cycles are all over the place. So far I've had 19 days, 25, 25, then last month 19 days again with the most horrific, practically suicidal PMT.
I had an appointment with my GP, I'm 40 now and absolutely terrified it's all too late for me. She kindly offered me 3 and 21 day bloods.I had the day 3 bloods on Tuesday. I was told to call for initial results for these and to book an appointment to discuss in full. I've booked the earliest appointment and it's not until 20th February!!
All the receptionist would say was 'all normal' to me today, I asked for my FSH and LH results as they were the only two things that came to mind, these have come back as FSH 4.8 and LH 3.8.
Does anyone know of these are OK for a 40yr old?
I'm am going to try and time the '21' day bloods for 7 days before my period is due using ov sticks and temping as I believe 21 day is only useful if you're having 28 day cycles although the doc never mentioned this, does that sound like the right thing to do?
Any advice or experience much appreciated.
No advice unfortunately but sorry to hear of your loss Monkey
The day 21 bloods are usually to test your progesterone level to check that you're ovulating. Don't try and time it, just go on day 21 of your cycle and have them done. They are based on an ideal 28 day cycle but can possibly still help work out what's happening (I had regular 45 day cycles and day 21 bloods showed that if I did ovulate, I was very late - day 20 ish).
Try and stay calm. Ask if you can see a nurse for the bloods and ask a few questions while you're in there
Yes, your FSH and LH seem excellent! I'm 38 and mine have just come back with 8 for each (which is ok/fair).
Definitely agree with your reasoning for going for bloods earlier than Day 21 if you're tracking ovulation. I've just been for mine and went on Day 28 (my cycles are long!). Some GPs are ok with fertility but I've found them to be very hit/miss so I'm not surprised if he/she didn't mention it.
Sorry to hear about the MMC, the same thing happened to me a few months before you- I found out at my dating scan when I was 13 weeks. The baby measured between 8-9 weeks gestation.
Apart from anything else, I felt totally freaked out that the pregnancy had just continued without any symptoms to tell me that it had all gone horribly wrong.
Anyhow, we have been TTC for over 6 months now, without any luck.
I had some bloods done a couple of months ago and my FSH was 6.7 and LH was 3.6- this was done around day 1 or 2 of my cycle.
Apparently all normal.
I am 38- have been pregnant twice before aged 34 and 37, wasn't even TTC at the time, both pregnancies occurred after having sex just the once each month I fell pregnant!
Have a child who will be 3 in a few weeks time.
A part of me feels that I am getting my comeuppance after having things so easy in terms of conceiving twice before!
Am going to see my GP soon to ask for a ultrasound scan...cant help thinking that I want to check that all is ok. The last scan was when I had the MMC- had medical management and was told I didn't need to go back for another scan as I got a negative PT around 3 weeks after treatment.
Your bloods appear to look good, but hopefully somebody with more knowledge will be along soon.
Thanks all, I know I just need to calm down about all this but after the MMC all I could think about was being pregnant again as soon as possible. I never imagined I'd have all the complications afterward nor be weeks away form my original due date and still waiting and worrying.
Turquise, sorry to hear of your loss too, I had a scan every week because of concern about infection and molar regrowth of retained products (horrid term) for two months so I know all my bits are in the right place but they did find some fiberiods just to add to my list of things to fret about. The scans weren't pleasant at the time as all done alongside lots of jolly happy pregnant ladies but good to know all had resolved. Really hope you get some reassurance.
Good luck to you all here.
