Missing period after failed treatment?

I've just had a failed ivf cycle and my af has gone awol. Has this happened to anyone else?

My period is now 5 days overdue and there's still no sign of a post treatment bleed. My cycle was cancelled due to failed fertilisation. I got as far as egg collection (nearly 3 weeks ago) - so I definitely ovulated - but didn't have transfer. I.e. I'm definitely not pregnant. I wasn't on progesterone pessaries either - so I can't really blame it on my body needing to recognise withdrawal of progesterone. Does anyone have a clue what might be going on? Are ovarian cysts a possibility? Does anyone have experience with cysts being caused by fertility treatment?

Hi sesame. Sorry about your failed cycle. I had my FET cancelled in March due to my lining not thickening and it took five and a half weeks from when I stopped the meds for my period to appear!! 😳 I hope yours doesn't take as long x

Hi Trillium, thanks for replying. Five and a half weeks? Bloody hell. My af is 8 days late now with no sign of it showing up. I guess I probably just need to wait it out. It's so frustrating when I just want to move on from the failure and go back to normal.

Hi Sesame, I'm in the same boat right now. Well, almost. Failed IUI (was told it was highly likely to fail - still disappointing though) and now I have to wait for af before we can think about next steps.

You are right - it is really frustrating - normally I don't want my period to come in the hope that I might be pg, but now I just want to get on with the next cycle!

Hi Miffy, I'm sorry you're in the same boat. How late are you and did the clinic say anything to explain why? Was it a medicated iui you did?

I'm now 6 days late. I did a medicated IUI, but without a trigger shot as I ovulated before they were expecting. The clinic have, annoyingly, said nothing about why. Just that I have to wait for it before I can have another appointment.
I guess you weren't given any sort of explanation either?
I've had long cycles occasionally before - but never knew why and assumed it was because it took me longer to ovulate than normal. But I know that wasn't the case this time...

Oh I do hope your af shows up soon. I have had a couple of longer cycles in the past, but I think those were times when I didn't ovulate at all. I haven't contacted my clinic about it yet. Calling them is always such a faff and I just don't feel like getting in touch with them right now after my latest failure. I suspect they will probably just tell me to wait it out. 11 days late is a very big deal for me but they probably won't be that interested. So for now I guess I wait, tho whinge a little to pass the time.... Wink

Just a wee update from me. My af finally arrived, almost 3 weeks late. After 2 weeks I got in touch with the fc, they recommended a scan and bloods to check as they thought a functional cyst was a possibility. I don't live near the fc so chose to wait and see for one more week. Eventual my af arrived 33 days after ec.

So pleased it turned up! You must be so relieved.

I'm in a similar boat - 19 days post EC of a freeze all cycle, with no progesterone support, and period is MIA. If anything my luteal phase should have been shorter and AF should have arrived early (my first IVF cycle was freeze all and period came 12 days after EC, which consultant said was normal)

I've had ongoing problems with lack of menstruation - which seemed to be because I didn't grow any proper lining, so there wasn't much to shed, hence never got any real periods, just brown / black clotty spotting when AF was due. We think that was the root cause of my miscarriage in March (embryo was chromosomally normal), so my Dr said it was essential I had a proper clear out, as I've not had a bleed since the ERPC - we went straight into stims as soon as my hormones went back to normal, with planned freeze all so we could do PGS

Amazingly this cycle I actually grew lining all by myself - a stonking 11mm - so Dr said this was brilliant as it meant I'd have a much needed proper bleed

Except period is completely AWOL. Had some brown / black clotty gunge 14 days post EC (ie bang on schedule) but never turned into any actual flow, and spotting has now dried up altogether. Emailed consultant's secretary in a panic yesterday, he's sufficiently concerned that he's getting me in for an after hours appt today, as he wants to scan me asap. Had a full panel of bloods this morning, so we'll have the results back before my appt this evening

Very nervous about what could have caused my uterus to go on strike, but v grateful that my Dr is seeing me after normal clinic hours so I can see him sooner rather than later

Yes, very relieved banana. I'm sorry that you're in a similar boat. Flowers I've had previous egg collections with no transfer and period came as normal/a bit early just like you. During that time I also read everything I could possibly find about functional cysts, trying to figure out what the hell could be going on. I also had a little spotting during that first week my period was overdue, with af refusing to turn up. But when my period eventually came it was just like my normal one (it was natural cycle IVF).

Good luck for your appointment, glad your doc can see you so quick. Really hope he helps you to get to the bottom of all this.
