Hi all,

My husband has obstructive azoospermia and in November we were referred for ICSI with surgical sperm retrieval. I phoned he clinic today to check whether they had received our referral and they said they had and we have an appointment on 29th January to get the ball rolling. I'm very excited as I thought our first appointment wouldn't be until mid-Feb at least.

Now I'm wondering what this first meeting involves? The lady on the phone said that we would see both a nurse and a doctor but didn't really say what would happen in those meetings. Do any of you know?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Let's hope 2016 brings all of us happiness and babies eh? xx

On our first appointment he had a look at my results for all the test i had done up to that point.

From this is decided that my partner needed a more recent sperm analysis done and that i needed an a more recent scan and the AMH blood test and the blood test for Hepatitis etc (i think that was everything). The AMH blood test was the only one i hadn't had before.

He said the he would have made me have the HSG test as well if it wasn't for the fact that i had it a month before.

He told us on this meeting that our choices were Clomid, IUI, or IVF.

Discussed how these all work.

Discussed the options of embryo glue and Day 5 Blastocyst and Embryoscope, which all cost extra as we're private.

He said well go away and come back once we have test results.

When we came back he decided that ICSI would be better for us due to the sperm numbers/quality/mobility/morphology not being great at the time. We agreed to proceed on this route.

He prescribed us the needed drugs for the cycle which were just sent over to Healthcare at Home, who delivered everything to me.

Next was our coordination appointment with the nurse who showed us how to use the needles etc. She gave us some stapled sheets with our 21 day protocol, with dates of what happened next.

Hope this helps...

Hyland, you are a star- thank you! You've answered all of my questions and your experience was pretty much what I was expecting so I feel much less nervous about the situation now.

Thank you! I hope you have success with IVF very soon Smile
