Boston Place/ 92 Harley Street - IVF feedback?

Penny1234 · 19/12/2015 18:48

I would really appreciate any feedback you have on Boston Place/ 92 Harley Street please. I have had failed ICSI IVF at Hammersmith Hospital and now looking to go private to try again in January.

We are keen to use Boston Place as their senior consultant Stuart Lavely is also a consultant at Hammersmith and Queen Charlottes so is very experienced, he has direct access to our NHs hospital notes and previous treatment history so can make informed decisions about our next treatment.

My main concern is that Boston Place is relatively new and there are other clinics around with very good reputations e.g. the Lister and im worried about making the wrong choise. I am also struggling to find unbiased reviews on Boston Place so would love to hear from you!

Thank you.

I was recommended 92 Harley. At 45 I didn't think my own eggs would be any good but the consultant said we should test anyway. It turned out I would have only 10percent chance.
So we went ahead with donor egg, Harley street is linked with Quiron Barcelona in Spain so we were recommended to go there.
Very impressed, the consultant spoke perfect English. It only took 4 weeks to find us a donor. Amazingly it worked first time and I'm 30 weeks pregnant now. All the test and scans I needed were done here at Harley street.
We have another grade A embryo in Barcelona which we hope to go back for. I would recommend them.
Good luck!

When i called around several places recommended Stuart Lavery to me as well. We attended an open evening at Hammersmith where he did most of the presentation and all the Q,A. He told us no difference between the Hammersmith or 92 harley street/Boston place. He told us that Harley st/Boston only deal with private and are a little cheaper.

Which i did check and this is true.

We had a failed cycle of ICSI in November and we're going through a medicated frozen cycle next.

Having only been at this clinic, I'm unsure what my over all verdict is.

It may be easier to compare notes.

I meant to say that we attended 92 Harley Street as a private patient and then Boston for the scans, blood, egg collection and egg transfer.

Hi Maurice169 and Hyland,

Thank you so much for leaving your feedback.

We have signed up for a consultation at the Lister Clinic mid-Jan so will try and compare the two.

Hyland good luck with the frozen cycle. I hope everything goes well for you. Thinking of you!

Take care,

Penny1234

Hi I am in the same predicament as you. I have been recommend Stuart Lavery at Boston Place Clinic by a friend who had IVF there, we have a consultation there and also at Lister as can't who to use. Lister has been going for years but Boston Place is pretty new.

Meliie83: I assume they had success as she has reccommended it to you?

I likes the fact that so many people spoke of Mr Lavery in a positive way. He's the director of Boston P. and 92 Harley street and high up at Hammersmith as well.

Ladies,

Be careful with Boston Place...

Boston Place has provided zero support during my IVF cycle with them. The consultant was great at selling the IVF idea but after, he was simply never available after my first consultation. It was all delegated to another team and a number of other consultants, that kept telling the exact opposite of what their main consultant had told me initially (I was so confused with the conflicting info there). When I kept asking to be put in touch with the person that had devised the plan, he was simply not available.

The team at the clinic took ZERO accountability for what I had been told vs what was happening and I felt that they were fantastic at selling their services, but their care and commitment simply wasn't there. This isn't my first attempt at IVF and from working with other clinics, it's clear that from their consultants to their administration team, they're very unprepared, lack experience, accountability and emphaty.

Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience with them.

Jumping on your thread but if you're going private I'd 100 per cent recommend Mr Colin Davis who has opened a new clinic called Evewell. He doesn't just specialise in ivf so there's no hard sell and he's an incredibly caring man and v hands on with treatment throughout the whole cycle. My son was conceived via an ivf cycle with him and we'll go back for a fet soon.

The admin staff are also amazing - always get back to you quickly etc which makes such a difference!

Hi! Thank you so much for recommending Evewell! I’ve just checked their website and I actually know one of the doctors working there - I had no idea he was working with a new clinic! I have met Dr Dimitri Psaroudakis about a year ago and he was fantastic, really caring too!

Definitely scheduling an appointment there Smile.

Thank you!

Go for it MM - it's such a lovely clinic. They've done everything they can to make it the best experience for patients
Even rooms you can go to and chat to your partner in private.

I ditto previous cautionary message of Boston Place. Had an awful experience there. First ever IVF and it was not only plagued with hidden costs but an awful experience. I submitted a complaint even before treatment began (which should have set alarm bells ringing but was completely submerged). They dealt with complaint terribly, and I regret wasting all my life savings there.

Hi Jem2019,

So sorry to hear that you too had a terrible experience there. The same happened to me, they dealt with my complaint in the worst possible way and when I tried to address it with their main consultant Mr Trew who designed my treatment plan, I was completely shocked by his attitude - he simply didn’t want to listen to what I had to say, even as I tried to explain that there was substancial evidence of negligence from his medical team, all he did was deny everything that had happened and chose to ignore the serious issues I was bringing to his attention - his attitude shows exactly why this clinic is absolutely terrible. I hope this thread helps anyone thinking about doing a cycle with them - stay away from Boston Place ladies I’m forever traumatized by everything I went through with them.

Hi MMPires,

I’m so sorry to hear that you also had a bad experience. It’s such a shame as there was/is limited information about the clinic and not many reviews so we took a leap of faith. Mr Trew was also my consultant and other than the initial consultation was nowhere to be seen/heard from despite my requests. I was misquoted by about £1000 which of course delayed our cycle and there were many, many issues along the way. When I looked at there website on how or whom to complain to, the link took me to an inactive page. When I pointed this out to them they didn’t even thank me for this or apologise.

It was one catalogue of errors after another by all members of staff. The only professional, empathetic and nice person was my coordination nurse.

I asked Boston Place for some answers to multiple questions I had after my cycle, and I’m still waiting. They don’t give a monkey about you and I would NOT recommend Mr Trew. Money is a priority at this clinic.

Please ladies do your research. I didn’t properly. Their success rates aren’t even that good (especially past the age of 38).

Please go elsewhere

Another vote here for The Evewell. No success story yet but we're working on it.

A really very personalised service - occasionally appointments ran a little late (approx 30 mins), but that is because you see your named consultant and you don't get rushed. Egg collection, transfer etc. were completely on time though. Also the head embryologist and his team are just superb, very research-active and easy to contact directly with queries - I think the staff were essentially head-hunted from leading clinics around London. Because it's a small core staff, everyone knows you and you don't feel like it's a conveyor belt.

We also had a poor experience at Boston Place. Started off good . The doctor we saw was great - Dr Hausman. The nurse was lovely if sometimes seeming a bit scatty. However the admin was terrible. We really struggled to find out what to pay when , emails went unanswered and had to be chased multiple times , and we were even asked to produce a receipt to prove we had paid for something which we had paid in person at the card machine in the clinic.
However this was mild - it got even worse- we were doing egg donation and for some reason it went terribly wrong with only one very poor quality blastocyst. All the rest died. We transferred that one but of course it was hopeless. We were devastated. The embryologist was supportive but we heard nothing from anyone else at all- I had to send an email and chase to get any response at all from the nurse . Never heard again from the doctor. After spending a total of 15k we asked if we could get a small refund as what we had paid for included embryo freezing ( and we had none to freeze) . We were told no and that “ if we went on holiday that included breakfast but we didn’t have breakfast we wouldn’t get that refunded”. Just so insensitive and upsetting and really disappointing - we trusted them with our hopes and dreams as well out hard saved money and they let us down badly.
After vigorous shaking of the piggy bank we have now been to Instituto Bernabeu in Alicante who have been fantastic and I am
5 weeks pregnant :) :) keep all your fingers crossed for us please
