Infertility

Not smoked in 6 years, smoked 10 at the weekend through stress. Have I screwed up?

To cut a long story short, I am a non (ex) smoker.

We're due to start IVF soon and after having a very stressful few weeks, I met up with an old friend and smoked about ten cigarettes this weekend.

Someone please tell me I haven't just killed off my last remaining eggs. (Am late 30s.)

This sounds facile, but it was a mistake and clearly I won't be smoking again and am now just fretting.

Am jstressing a lot now and hoping that one weekend of smoking in 6 years hasn't completely ruined everything.

Any reassurance at all will help me stop stressing as that can't be helping either. Sad

Not sure about effecta on ivf and a day of ciggarettes, but I don't think only 10 cigarettes in one day over 6 years would make too much difference, I think it's worse to smoke regularly as it builds up over time, one day of smoking is only one day. You've done really well to stop for so long, I wouldn't let one day ruin the success!

also ex-smoker - I feel your pain, I have in and had one about 4 months ago and suffered the consequences of sore throat the next day!

I would very much doubt it. I suspect long term changes might affect egg quality but a one off fag binge is unlikely to make a difference.

Sending you my best wishes for a happy outcome. Smile

Thanks RPJ. I was too scared to google the effects.

But the reassurance is so helpful to stop me fretting Confused.

Thanks all - this is very reassuring.

Yes there is a definite tinge of paranoia probably. Infertility is a stressful time!

Nope, you're fine. Do NOT take it back up again though!! (Just out of interest, did you not find it revolting after six years?)

What is it about IVF that is stressing you out? There are tons of people here who can reassure you that it's not always terrible :o)
