Hi,

My DH had his FSH levels tested recently due to his sperm analysis showing zero. His levels were very high at 64. I'm just looking for others really so I can try and understand if this is extremely abnormal or just high.

Thank you smile

Hi there.

Normal levels of FSH for men are between 1.3 and 19.3. So, unfortunately a level of 64 is very odd. Are they going retest?

One of the reasons for high readings is if his testicles have been damaged by X-rays, chemotheraphy or excessive alcoholism. Another reason could be a disease called Klinefelter syndrome. With an FSH level so high he would not make sperm. Unfortunately I have no idea of what the treatment would be for your DH but you will be referred to a fertility specialist.

The very best of luck to you xxx

Hi science thanks for your reply.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear; no he has had no sperm in two samples; he'll be tested for genetic conditions like Klinefelters and we have an appointment with a fertility clinic in August. I more wondering about other men with this level of FSH, anything above 18 is high but I've found not any stories similar to ours? I was wondering if there is anyone else on this forum?

Hey twinkle, we're just waiting for DH's test. He had radiotherapy 9 years ago and we found out last year he has no sperm. Luckily we banked some but after 6 rounds of IUI we are now planning to move onto IVF. WE're having his levels checked to see if it was caused by the radio (which would show a high FSH level) or is structural and could possibly be repaired. I'll let you know how we get on, should hear by Tuesday.
