Hello,

I've been trying for a baby for 3years not nothing is happening. When to the doctor whom sent me for some tests & they have diagnosed me PCOS ?? although they have said I can still get pregnant (aslong as I am having periods)

Well basically my periods were very IRREGULAR as I'm over weight 49-BMI

But I have recently started a Cambridge weight plan diet which has helped me to loose over 12kgs so my bmi now stands at 42/43. Also since I have started the diet my periods are exactly on time and very regular.

So would like to find out, if my period last month was 23 September - 30septemer

This month it started on 26 October and its started to become lighter so guessing I should be finished by Sunday. When would be the right time to have sexual inter course with DH? If someone can tell me a easy way to work it out and also to tell me exact date instead of (eg) day 14.

Would really really appreciate everyone's help. I'm totally heartbroken I've not already had kids as it is, feel very depressed all the time due to this ??

Thank you in advance

Xxx

For me the best thing I ever did was buy the clear blue digital monitor and found out I ovulate on day 17. It also helps you become much more familiar with your cycle that I started to notice the body changes I go through on the lead up and at actual ovulation.
I would also reccomend evening primrose oil to help regulate your hormones.

The monitor doesn't work as quickly for those with PCOS as it needs longer to understand your cycle and it can be expensive paying £25 + a month on the sticks but for me it was worth it.

I've never been officially diagnosed with PCOS despite having a lot of the symptoms but my period were becoming more irregular and this really helped me conceive with 3 months and then the 2nd and 3rd time 8 months.

Oh and for me we time sex for 4 days before my ovulation, 2 days before ovulation and then day of ovulatin.
We also use a conception Gel that helps improve the soerms chances of survival while it waits for ovulation.

No one can really tell you because everyone is different. It depends on how long your luteal phase is (the length of time between ovulation and your period). Have you tried ovulation predictor kits, or do they not work for you because of your PCOS? Or have you tried charting your temperature?

Thank you for all your advise.

No I haven't tried charting my temp. But got test kit and they always seem to not give me a result. I'm presuming its because of my PCOS. Not sure though. So what do you advise, to track my temperature? When?

Regards

My understanding with PCOS is that, if it affects the OPKs (and it doesn't for everyone with PCOS) you get lots of false positives, rather than always negative. It's possible that you haven't used them for long enough. Have you tried for nearly an entire cycle? For example, I don't usually ovulate until day 19/20/21, so when I first started using OPKs I gave up early at first, thinking that if I hadn't got a positive by day 18 that they weren't working. It was only when I used for longer than I realised that I ovulate late.

Here's a good website for explaining how to take your temperature to chart your cycle. www.fertilityfriend.com

in brief, you need a digital thermometer that goes to two decimal places. You take your temperature first thing before you get out of bed and note it on a chart (such as fertility friend). After ovulation, your temperature should go up. It takes a few months to see a pattern. I never found it useful for predicting ovulation, although it help me feel reasonably sure that I was ovultating (it's supposed to be a more reliable measure that OPKs).

From what I understand ovulation test kits/monitors are completely redundant when it comes to PCOS. They can be a huge waste of money. Regular sex throughout the month is probably a better tactic rather than trying to 'time' it.

Timing would be difficult because you have a history of irregular periods. Charting temperature is helpful if you are more regular and to identify if you have actually ovulated, but it's no use in actually trying the time when the right time to have sex is. Every 2-3 days or 3 times a week is best bet. I would try twice on weekend (at start and end) then once or twice in the week as many find it harder with work etc.
Good luck. Hope it happens for you soon.

If you have a regular 28-day cycle you can assume you ovulate on day 14. So wait until your period ends and then have sex every second day for 10 days. That covers the whole middle of your cycle. If you want to play it safe continue for another day or two, but that should cover it.

June, I wouldn't assume that OP ovulates around day 14. When my periods returned after my LO, I was amazed to find they had become regular at 28 days and was hopeful that my body had sorted itself about. When I started using OPKs again, I realised I was still ovulating at my normal time of day 19/20 and having an extremely short luteal phase. Still, vit B sorted out for me and it's now a more respectable 12/13 days.

Congratulations on the weight loss!! Good for you as a mummy as well as somebody ttc!

Try ovulation kits - and having sex every other day especially around this time.

Good luck :)
