Experiences with metformin?

I have PCOS and been TTC no1 for nearly 2 years. I have had perhaps 3 periods in the past 12 months.

Today my gp prescribed metformin and referred us to fertility consultant.... At long last we finally feel like we are getting somewhere!

Does anyone have any words of wisdom/ experience of metformin with pcos and TTC with infrequent periods?

Did u get oh tested too?
A 5% weight loss is thought to help regulate.
I would have liked to see if just metformin (and now thyroxine) would have helped ttc naturally.
We had to go straight to icsi due to low SA.
You may get upset stomach with the met. First time i found it went away after a bit. This seems to be persisting.
It must have felt a bit pointless ttc with so few periods, were opks working at all?
Its frustrating enough with irregular periods varying about 8 days. Some people have had success with no intervention once they have pinpointed ovulation.
It seems that clomid can be quite successful.
How old are you?

I have PCOS and damaged / removed tubes due to 2x Ectopic Pregnancies. My first DD was IVF but heard about metformin after she was born. Went on it for 18 months and conceived a further 3 times eventually resulting in DD2. All metformin conceptions were natural. I found it was amazing (although best taken after meals as can make you feel a bit queezy!) and gave me regular cycles within a few months so it was easy to try for a baby when OV. However, I found I needed to remain on metformin throughout pregnancy and I actually needed to also supplement each pregnancy with progesterone suppositories until 12 weeks to maintain the pregnancy (as PCOS had also caused me to have low progesteone levels resulting in multiple MC). It took a couple of MC and blood tests to discover this though Sad

I haves taken metformin for fertility. I took it prior to conceiving ds who is now 3. I then conceived 3 times over the course of 12 months but mc all. I decided after the last mc I was going to try to get metformin again and luckily my gp agreed. I increased the dose to 3 tablets gradually to avoid an upset tummy. After 4 weeks my period arrived and I began a (regular for me) 5 week cycle. I conceived after 6 months and am now cautiously 15 weeks. I continued taking the met until 12 weeks. I should also add I lost weight as well following low carb way of eating.

I started taking metformin in October last year. Took it for two months and had two cycles. Went off it in December - very busy and forgot to take it. Started again in January - found out on Feb 12th that DH and I are expecting our first baby. Am now eight weeks and no issues at all :-)

We were trying for two years before that with no success and I was having minimal cycles
