Anyone starting IUI soon?

I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

My miracle DS was born on my first cycle of IUI. Good luck.

I'm just about to start my third cycle next week. My first worked but sadly ended in miscarriage. Try not to worry too much, it actually isn't too bad-I didn't have any side effects from the drugs and the whole process what relatively easily. I have my fingers crossed that it's the same for you!

We can support each other through it :) x

Hi :)
I'm about a week behind you all being well. I think it sounds really daunting "injections" but on the grand scale of things I'm sure its one of the easier bits really.
Hope tomorrow goes well x

The injections are fine, I got my dh to do them and you can't even feel them. The hcg one stings a little I think that's because it's just come out of the fridge but it's nothing to bad. When do you think you will be starting suzie? X

I'm just waiting for the first day of my cycle which is due 9th Jan. It's my first round so I am pretty clueless. I have an unread book about IVF but I haven't read any of it as I didn't think I would ever get to the top of the funding pile :) Maybe the less you know the less you worry?

Think I will start mine around the 4th. It's really not that bad, although I think it works slightly differently in different hospitals. Here I take clomid from day 2-6, have a scan on day 5 and day 11 and give myself the injections on day 6, 8 and 10. Normally after my day 11 scan I give myself the hcg shot and go in for the actual iui about 24-36 hours after. It all sounds confusing but you will be surprised how quickly and easily it goes by. I find the most difficult thing is taking the time off to go to my appointments! X

I'll be starting my second round of iui in a couple of weeks. It's not that bad especially compared to ivf. I was worried about the injections but honestly they don't hurt except gestone which is a bit painful but not all people use this.

Thanks ladies, it's just great to read other peoples chat and stories.

Today I had a scan and bloods, and I've to start injections tonight, everyday now for however long, I've to have bloods done on fri then again with a scan on Monday! And to keep taking my nasal spray.

Fingers crossed ladies, where are you all about the country, I'm in Glasgow, it's amazing how much it all changes depending in where you are!

I'm doing first round of unmediated IUI next month. We will buy sperm tomorrow so it's all ready. Then in about four weeks I'll start doing ovulation sticks and when I get a positive will call clinic and go in about 24 hours later.

Just curious those who are doing meds what are the reasons why? My AMH is 5.2 which is lowish however clinic said to try unmediated.

We have unexplained fertility-all tests have come back clear so far. Our clinic doesn't do unmedicated as they think the chances of it working are too slim. Every clinic had different success rates and dies things differently though x

I need medication to induce ovulation. I have tried clomid etc but nothing happened so app the drugs for iui are stronger so you are monitored more closely.

Where do you buy sperm from?

We are going private as at 35 I'm too old for my PCTs funding so we are at London women's clinic and buy sperm from London sperm bank.

I just want the best chance especially as its so expensive. LWC success rates is something like 17% for unmedicated. Our consultant said as I've never tried to get pregnant before there may be no issues so to keep it simple.

Too old at 35!! Thats shocking. I am 40 and have funding from my PCT.

That's very lucky. I so wish now I'd started earlier. Fingers crossed for all of us that 2014 brings us babies.

Hello!

I will probably start my first go at IUI around 9th Jan. Still feels a bit unreal and my fingers are firmly crossed that I won't need it and a miracle will happen this cycle. I have secondary infertility and been trying for dc2 for 18 months. We are "unexplained" with poss v mild male. factor. I ovulate naturally but am still being "super" ovulated to up the chances of success. I was surprised when my clinic said they would use Clomid tablets rather than injections for stimulation - has anyone else done it this way?

Good luck to everyone!

We use both, clomid from days 2-6 and then a scan at day 5. They normally then get me to do injections every other day until my day 11 scan to make my follies extra juicy! X

Ah, right perhaps that's what they'll do with me as well. It all seems a bit suck it and see which is difficult for a control freak like me but I understand that they tweak the protocol depending on scans and bloods etc so have to expect a bit of uncertainty.

Happilymarried155 · 03/01/2014 08:17

It really is different for everyone, I got told the first one is a trial as they don't know how your body reacts to the drugs etc....but a saying that I've been lucky and I think I've always done the standard procedure. I've had it twice now, the first time worked but sadly ended in mc-the second didn't work. I had more follies the second time and dh sa was better. It goes to show it really is down to luck!!

Sorry about AF happily - but good that you're feeling positive.

It's my birthday today and one of my presents has been cramping. I'm 10dpo so think I'm out this cycle but like you at least I have the plan to hang on to and the knowledge that I can ring the clinic when AF arrives and get the ball rolling.

Happilymarried155 · 05/01/2014 17:47

Exactly..I always feel so much better when I have a plan.

Although after my first iui I had cramping and it worked. I had cramping until I was about 7 weeks pregnant so don't lose hope yet! X

how is everybody??

I've had a crap day, went for a scan today (day 8) and they said that because I have 3 follicles more than 14mm I have to cancel this cycle.
So I think I am just waiting for AF and then start again, although slightly confused as I dont generally get AF without drug induction. Very frustrating, just another hurdle and a long wait again!!!

hope everyone has had a better day

L x
