Clomid newbie - advice needed or success stories!!

Hi all,

Bit of background. DH & I have been TTC #2 for over a year. We lost a baby in February at 11 weeks & since then my cycles have been haywire! Yesterday our consultant prescribed 4 months supple of clomid confident it'll bring my ovulation back into a "normal" pattern.

Anyway all the advice we were given was to have intercourse 3 x a week once my period had ended. By some weird luck I started my period y'day & I can start taking clomid today through to day 6. I've read fertility articles that advise sex alternate days after the fifth day of the last pill. Anyone tried this? Also we had been trying opk's but will the clomid affect this?

Any advice or success stories welcome!!

Would not use OPKs at all whilst on clomid. Its main job is to make the ovaries work harder. It also increases LH levels and these kits measure LH. It could well therefore give you false readings.

Is there definitive proof you are not ovulating regularly?.

Your DH should be tested as well in tandem with your own investigations.

Thanks for advice.

I've had blood tests but they were normal, I'm not booked in for further scans as have been pg twice, DH has a high sperm count so they're concluding as I'm having between 2-3 "periods" a month then I'm not ovulating properly.

Really hope it works - or just gives me one period a month!!

You're having between "2-3" periods a month?!.

No, they need to find out what is the root cause of this incessant and nuisance bleeding rather than just throwing clomid at you and hoping for the best!.

I would consider seeking a second opinion, being pg before should not preclude you from having further scans. Do you actually have a diagnosis, I guess not.

I have what I consider to be a period (lasts around 5 days) & then 1 or 2 other episodes of bleeding a month.

No, haven't been given a diagnosis. Have had an ultrasound scan which showed nothing unusual. Was just told to take 4 month's supply & go back after for testing if it hasn't worked.

I have seen a fertility nurse & a doctor & both said the same thing. Not sure what to do now. Thought this would be the end of my weird cycle!

Took an ovulation test and it indicates i ovulated which is brilliant news. We tried last night tonsee if it would work. Although the tests says i ovulated i didnt get the discharge they say you get. Is this normal???

Sabzh - clomid tends to dry up cervical mucous. You might want to buy some preseed (from amazon) or the Boots brand fertility friendly lubricant.
