What are the chances?

This is a repost.

My best friend has just suffered a miscarriage. She has on Clomid and got pregnant on her second round. She is 44 and desperate to conceive. What are the chances of success with Clomid or would it be better to start IVF? It could be a very expensive gamble to take. Also, is there a limit on the number of rounds of Clomid one can take?

I think docs in the UK generally like to give no more then six consecutive rounds of clomid. Seeing as it worked for your friend (as in, she got pregnant) it might be worth her giving it another go when she's ready? Maybe if she gives herself a 'clomid deadline' with a view to moving onto IVF after a specific amount of rounds, then all bases would be covered. IVF is no guarantee she'll get pregnant or that she wing have another mc, so personally, if I were her, I'd give clomid a few more rounds before moving on.
