Last chance ivf short protocol

Scoops76 · 01/09/2013 22:40

My hubby and I are just starting our 3rd ivf cycle (1st 2 failed) and our first cycle of short protocol. Anyone else going through the same thing? Thought I would share my symptoms / stories so far.
Currently on day 7 and off for my first scan tomorrow to see if it is working - will update as I go ;)

Hey Scoops.

You titled your thread 'Last chance'. So this is your last go at IVF? I too am about to undergo my third IVF. My body has been all out of whack since my last IVF and I keep getting cysts on my ovaries. Never happened before so I assume a side effect of IVF drugs. Today is CD one. Find out in 4 hours if my blood levels are back to normal and I start IVF this month or if it is more cycles of waiting for my body to get back to normal. I am on a knifes edge waiting.

Hopefully will be starting IVF this cycle and 6 days behind you! Would be happy to get your updates and listen to your vents to get you through this IVF round.

What has happened in your last IVFs? I did the short protocol last two rounds - not much success and am trying estrogen priming for next IVF... if my cysts ever go away!

I just wanted to wish you both the best for your IVF treatments.

16 months ago I was in the same position.

My first IVF was in Nov / Dec 2011. It resulted in two good blastos. One was transferred, one put on ice. It ended as a biochemical.

Jan 2012 I started a frozen cycle, but our frostie failed to thaw on the day of transfer. That was really hard.

Feb 2012 we started another fresh cycle. Two good blastos, both transferred but a BFN. I also hyper stimulated.

June 2012. Third fresh cycle of IVF and it was going to be our last. Two excellent blastos transferred. Two good good ones put on ice. I'm now sitting here snuggling with and feeding my seven month old DTD. My DTS is in the cot beside me having his morning nap.

I really hope it is third time lucky for you both too. And I hope my story just goes to show that it can work even after a number of failures. Be kind to yourselves. Fertility treatment is a tough journey to be on.

Thanks both - fingers crossed shellster52 that your bloods come back ok x and your cysts have gone. I had a small cyst when we started round two but they let us carry on as so small - I think it is definitely all the hormones they pump you full of!!

So good to hear of success after so many rounds -and twins too ;) we have had 2 rounds of long protocol so far but they have now shifted us to short as the quality of my eggs was low. Both times got 2 embryos transferred on day 3 but no joy ;( just had my day 8 scan this morning and have more follicles (18) than we had on day 14 (ec day and 12 follicles) for the last two so have everything crossed that it is a good sign - do feel much more bloated than first two times so hopefully they are cooking well. Back in on weds for next scan ;)

We have been really lucky and this is our last Nhs cycle - have decided to have 2014 off trying if it doesn't work and then ork out how we are ever going to afford to try again after that - here's hoping I don't have to worry about that!

Knackeredcow- how is it having twins -as tiring as I imagine?!

Will post again when have next scan result

Well day 10 scan - 22 folliciles ;) so we are cooking on gas ;) bummer is that nurse told me this morning that I was ready to go in on Friday for ec but spoke to them this afternoon and because lots of women are ready we have been bumped to Monday - really not happy as no-one can tell me what impact waiting and extra three days will be ;( more news after ec next week

OP posts:
Luckystarfour · 07/09/2013 06:59

scoops that is really bad practice and us be fuming - eggs lefts to go over clukd get too big! Also are you still injecting, If so they could risk hyper stimulation. Either was if be fuming!

To leave you until Monday too. What couldn't they collect today?

Sometimes you have to really stand your ground with these clinics!!!

Good luck xx

Scoops76 · 07/09/2013 07:31

Thanks - the clinic don't do ec at the weekends so when they were full on Friday had to bump us til Monday! I asked about overcooking my eggs and they said because I have so many they could afford for some o be overcooked. No mention of ohss and feel ok at moment so fingers crossed - last injection tonight and then hcg injection later - wish me luck ;)

Scoops - I won't lie. It's hard work having twins. It's definitely full on for both me and my DH. I had a complicated pregnancy too. But I wouldn't change it for the world. You do cope and you will cope. It's also satisfying to know that I won't have to go through IVF ever again unless I want a third. Grin

Scoops76 · 07/09/2013 15:56

Thanks -I have to honest I love the idea of twins ;) Especially as would love two children and don't want to have to go through ivf again! Here's hoping x

OP posts:
RaspberrySnowCone · 09/09/2013 22:06

They said yesterday they were hoping for around 10 eggs. The Dr I have is a bit quiet and not very responsive so in the end I gave up questioning because she quite honestly looked embarrassed. Weird. Nevermind, as long as it gets the job done. Fingers crossed for your embies tonight scoops!

RaspberrySnowCone · 10/09/2013 17:55

17 eggs, but I do have a bit of fluid in my uterus which they want to check on Thursday and may drain out. Apparently they will ring between 8-9 am tomorrow to advise of progress.

CoventGarden75 · 10/09/2013 19:13

Thanks Scoops. This is going to be a long morning!

When will you next know how your little guys are doing?

RaspberrySnowCone · 11/09/2013 09:51

8 fertilised. If they are good quality they may put them back in on Friday although they are aiming for Blasts on Sunday.

Scoops76 · 11/09/2013 12:03

8fertilised is great news!! We are waiting for a call tomorrow to tell us how many of ours are still viable and then either transfer tomorrow or sat. It is nerve racking as with our last attempts we went from 9 fertilised to only three viable on day 3 but the eggs were poorer quality so just hoping this time they hang in there!! How are you feeling after ec?
