Not ovulating :((9 Posts)
Hi Lisatay25, please tell your friend not to despair. I was told by my GP I wasn't ovulating after the Day 21 test and I felt devastated. I was subsequently referred to an Assisted Conception Unit who established that I do ovulate. I just have a longer cycle/ovulate slightly later in the cycle, which meant the Day 21 test was done on the wrong day.
As I understand it, if your friend has periods she is most probably ovulating.
If she wants to do something practical while she waits to see a specialist, she could try doing an ovulation predictor kit every other day for a month to see what happens (I say every other day because the kit is expensive: if she's not worried about money she could do it every day). It may also help if she records the start dates of her periods (if she hasn't already been doing so) so that she can calculate her average cycle length.
Hope this helps - I was really angry that my GP's ignorance had caused me unnecessary upset. I'm still trying to conceive after 3.5 years, two rounds of IUI and one round of IVF, so I'm afraid I can't give you a happy outcome (yet), but there could be all sorts of reasons that your friend isn't pregnant yet, that have nothing to do with whether or not she's ovulating. The sooner she gets to see a specialist, the better.
It's great that you're supporting her and finding out what you can.
I too was not ovulating. I visited GP after 2 years and although my BMI was slightly above normal for my height was told to lose weight and come back in a year. I did that and then was told the same thing a year later. Meanwhile had been doing home ovulation tests and never had a positive. Once I eventually convinced doc to give a toss they started taking day 21 bloods which were always negative too and theorising about PCOS I pushed for further blood tests and for a few months had day 21, 25 and 28 which were all negative (my arm was black and blue and staff at GP surgery kept making comments as if I was taking the piss. They even told me no further tests were necessary.
No explanation was offered as to why I wasn't ovulating although I was placed on waiting list to have tubes checked. 4 years after I started trying and still never having had a positive ovulation test I was prescribed letrozole but never actually took it due to a job change figuring I'd get settled first and now miraculously and still apparently never having ovulated I am pregnant.
I'm about 2 weeks behind what I would expect according to date of last period which suggests that I ovulated really late in my cycle so my advice is don't get disheartened and stop testing too early because you might be like me and have a normal-ish cycle length but you just ovulate way after expected.
I have problem overlaying, clomid didn't work for me'i was on it for 6 cycles, the doc then changed me to letrozole and it worked first time.
The sad thing is I miscarried early.but am confident it will work again x
Hi, the reason for my infertility is that I don't ovulate. They will most probably ask her to repeat the test as some people only ovulate every other month/every few months. Other tests will be done to check everything else is ok and to see what the reason is (could be pcos) then she can be given clomid, and hormone injections to help her ovulate too.
There is lots of help out there for her so try and keep her optimistic about it.
In a 30 day cycle it should be day 23 bloods
I hope so too, I think the 21day test is just the initial test, given that they think she's not ovulating she'll be referred on, and more indepth testing done. I hope it gives more positive results for her. Xx
Her cycles are exactly 30 days every month feel really bad for her I really hope she has the same reaukt as you xxxx
I had this done in 2011 the month I was told that I wasn't ovulating I found out I was pregnant! My cycle isn't exactly 28days so the 21day test was useless as I hadn't ovulated then. I would firstly ensure that she was tested at the right time for her, given my experience.
My best friend had her 21 day blood test done and her results have come back that she is not ovulating has anyone had the same experience and way was the outcome ?? Xx
