Just found out I have pcos.
Only symptom has been difficulty losing weight .
Been ttc for 18 months so in a way I'm pleased they might have found a reason & we can try & fix it.

So I know I need to try & lose weight, (never ending quest....)

Low gi is supposed to be good

Has anyone got any advice ?

No advice on how to lose weight, I am still struggling with that. I just wanted to let you know that conceiving with PCOS is far from impossible. My lovely dd is a prime example.

In hindsight I think concieving dd was really helped with the fact I was eating the healthiest I have ever done. Basically it was the pregnancy diet - nothing off the list you shouldnt eat. Reduced red meat intake, reduced fatsugar and caffene, no fizzy drinks, plenty of fluid and no booze. Sounds awful bit it was quite easy as it wasnt a diet to lose weight for me it was just doing my best for a potential baby.

thanks January
I feel like I've tried every diet there is & I know I should just try & eat sensibly!
Its always good to hear success stories Smile

Losing weight is HARD for people with pcos. It is also soul suckingly slow. Try not to concentrate on the weight and just try to be healthy instead.

Good luck. I am sure it will happen for you x

there is definitely hope.

I developed PCOS after the birth of my 3rd child when I was 21, so in a way I was very lucky because I already had babies. It got increasingly severe over the next few years. The doctor even said I would be unlikely to conceive naturally again. I wasn't unduly concerned about this at the time though. I had never lost weight after the birth of ds2, and it kept on creeping up, and in the end after reading lots I decided that in order to try and improve my health I really needed to lose weight.

My dad needed to aswell, so we went to weight watchers together.

I lost 2 and a half stone....... and became unexpectedly pg after using no contraception as I had been told it was extremely unlikely Smile

After ds3's birth I was told it recurs in a 1/3 of cases. We decided to try for another right away, as the older 3 were born closer together, and ds3 had been born 3 days after ds2 had started school. DD2 was born 15 months later Smile

Lo and behold after about 4 years the PCOS returned.

But, I am currently 30 weeks with a surprise (i know, you would think i would know by now Grin) baby number 6.

So what I am trying to say is it IS possible. Don't give up hope.

I found WW helpful because I could eat whatever i wanted as long as I counted it, and I'm no good with restrictive diets, and also it was more about portion control for me rather than changing what I ate.

HTH

Hi Penny, I'm in the PCOS club too!
I have a beautiful 2yr old son conceived on IUI and I'm just starting the same treatment again for hopefully number 2. I have also been put on Metformin and am losing weight because of it.
Good Luck!

Hi Penny, I have PCOS too and conceived both my sons naturally with a good diet and exercise. Unfortunately, out of no where it has returned with a vengeance since putting on a bit of baby weight with my little ones, now trying for my third baby and having to take Clomid. Look into Agnus Castus, I swear it helped my cycles regulate. Many women only take it up to ovulation in case they fall pregnant as it is believed it is not healthy into pregnancy. Good luck xx

Hi, I have mild PCOS as well and find that using natural progesterone cream after ovulation clears up some of the symptoms, like acne, so I assume it is beneficial. x

I have PCOS and am 31 weeks pregnant with my first child conceived naturally after 16 months TTC.
I lost 1 and a half stone doing slimming world which help me conceive as cycles went from 60-90 days to 28-31.
Low GI is good there are specific diet books for PCOS but think just find a diet that works for you. Exercise is also very helpful.
We had just had tests at the fertility clinic and waiting to see the consultant when I got my BFP.

It is really difficult but losing weight is the most important thing. I have pcos and lost about 2st last year. I then got pregnant straight away. I was on metformin too which I think helped. For weight loss the only thing which has worked for me is reducing carbs and avoiding refined sugar (basically low GI). I had salad for lunch instead of sandwiches and meat and vegetables for evening meal. I was also going to gym classes 3-4 times per week which made a huge difference. Unfortunately once pregnant the weight is quick to creep back on so I will be starting again in September! Grin

Good luck, it's hard work but definitely can be done!

hi, I have pcos. I have 1ds who was conceived after I lost some weight. regarding diet, sugar is not your friend. low carb is the way to go. I have found that low carb and metformin have resulted in a steady weight loss. There is a super low carb section over in the big slim whatever area of mn.

When I was losing weight low sugar diet worked for me.And that includes cutting out fruit, yogurt etc as that is sugar too.

I lost a lot of weight and now bmi 27-28. Not great but I did that before I got pcos diagnosis.
