FED UP OF THE PAIN...

been diagnosed with pcos since Feb this year and ttc for 2 years... ive had in total 3 miscarriages latest one being last xmas.. now since being diagnosed ive had 4 AF's and the last two have been really painful. . I mean cramps that put me on me arse.. I cant breath with the pain. its been 2 weeks since last AF and today the cramps started again but nothing... im sick of doctors telling me to take pain killers for pain and wait for hospital referal.. I have my hospital appt for 17th july but im just fed up with the cramps. wouldn't mind too much if it meant anything... think I just need a rant tbh... any advise on methods to get through the pain without medication would be great as I HATE taking pain meds. thanks in advance! !

Hi mrs so sorry to hear of your losses and trials. I can't relate to that having never had a whiff of a bfp (ttc 15 mths ish) but can relate to the pain. I've always had painful periods but about six months ago it started getting really bad. I often get sickness and diarrhea at the same time so I can't take painkillers and am curled up in a ball (or on the loo)f or about 4 -6 hours and wondering what i've done to deserve it.

The only non- medical methods of dealing with the pain that i find even scratch the surface of it are a) hot water bottles b) breathing and c) moving. If you can focus on long, slow breaths it's almost a distraction, and I sometimes find trying to move or even walk helps a little (but not always possible) .

I've wondered about a tens machine as a friend swore by it for her back pain.

I would think that endometriosis is the root cause of your pain here (that also applies to Aquarius1 also having read her message too). The symptoms you both write of do fit in with endometriosis being present.

I would suggest you both also keep a daily pain and symptom diary and show this to the consultant gynae when you see such a person.

I would ring the hospital TheMrs04and see if there are any cancellation appts available. You may get seen quicker that way.

have already been cleared of endometriosis.. according to drs its ovulation cramps... so fingers crossed this time... apparently my cycle is starting to get back to some normality. being sent to hospital to talk about having cysts removed by surgery. this month I am sick of feeling like a pin cushion. good job im not afraid for needles lol.. thanks for the advise

How was it determined that endometriosis was not the cause?. Sounds like they have no idea at all actually by dismissing this as ovulation cramps. Endo is very much under diagnosed even these days.

Sounds like they are talking about ovarian diathermy, is that indeed the case?. It can certainly help some PCOS patients but the cystic follicles associated with this condition do return.

Something is causing all this pain and it is certainly in your interests to find out why. It may well now be time to seek a second opinion.

have had various ultrasounds done over the past few months. my womb is in good condition according to consultants. off to see gynaecologist in 9 days to talk about removing cysts and or starting a clomid treatment...

Hi TheMrs04,

Ultrasounds do NOT detect endometriosis if it is there; I have had more internal ultrasounds than I care to mention and NONE of them detected the endometriosis I was also diagnosed with!.

What sort of cysts are they referring to?. Is this with reference to PCOS?.

Clomid needs to be given with a degree of caution to such patients and will not address the underlying painful periods.

Demand answers at your next apt, do not be fobbed off. Its all too easy to be fobbed off when it comes to subfertility.
