Progesterone tests - help!

So my progesterone tests have come back fine, lady on the phone said I've ovulated fine and now it's DH turn to see the doctor.. However doctor originally said I needed more blood tests on day 3 of AF ?! Didn't say what these were for testing, and the woman on the phone didn't mention anything? Feeling very confused and we're only at the beginning!

Who gave you the results of the progesterone test, the hospital or GP surgery?

Who stated you needed more blood tests?.

Day 2 tests (it can be done on day 3 though) are to check and compare your LH (luteinising hormone) against that of your FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process, if these are affected then ovulation can go awry.

It makes sense for your DH to be tested at the same time as your tests are being carried out but semen analysis often needs to be repeated. It should be a test carried out in a hospital and the results looked at by a specialist fertility cons, not ideal to have it done via the GP.

Hi Chels, it is all a bit confusing at the beginning! We are around 6 months ahead of you, having had our first appointment towards the end of last year.

I had my day 21 test early on, but the day 3 test later, so don't panic. There are lots of tests they can do and it seems that there isn't a set order or time frame to do them in. We had a day 21, then DH's sperm analysis, then we were referred to a consultant at a local hospital, who organised my day 3 test (followed by an ultrasound scan, then an HSG and now I'm on month 1 of clomid).

I would sort out your DH's sperm analysis appointment then make a follow appointment with your GP to discuss your results and what happens next. One of the things I've found hardest about this is all the waiting between tests and appointments! But don't be worried about following up and calling for more details if you're unsure what's supposed to happen next.

Thanks for your reply! We're dealing with our doctors, I got my results over the phone from the gp surgery. When we went initially to take about fertility he said I'd have the Progesterone test 7 days after suspected ovulation, and he said then once AF appeared I'd need more blood tests - so do I still need these tests? If its clear I've ovulated do I need the test?
DH booking an appointment with our GP for this week so hopefully we'll get the ball rolling. Do you suspect they'll refer out of the gp surgery then? Much appreciated answers thank you!

Hi B,
Thanks for reply! Feels good to know you do eventually get through all the tests and appointments! DH is booking an appointment for this week so hopefully we'll get somewhere. Thanks for the advice, we'll get DH sorted and then work backwards on tests for me, didn't know they couldn't be done within joining cycles! X

We were referred to a consultant at the local hospital after the day 21 and sperm tests (we had been TTC for 2 years by then). It took 3 months to get our first appointment through though!

My consultant seemed to think day a 3 test was preferable, as with the day 21 test you're dependant on doing it on the right day.
