AMH Levels 0.7

Kerrigan90 · 03/07/2012 10:53

I am 31 and have no children. My partner and I were attending a fertility clinic with the hope of him under going a vasectomy reversal and part of this was testing my AMH levels through a blood test. Last week it was confirmed my levels were 0.7. I was told I wouldn't be able to conceive and IVF is not an option as my eggs are of so poor quality. As you can imagine this has came as a nasty surprise, however, my mum was completely through the menopause at my age and this is something I have raised as a concern with various doctors throughout my twenties. My periods were symptomatic with endometriosis although this was investigated with two laparoscopy's and never confirmed. Gynocologist advised my periods were a 'variation of normal' in my late twenties. We have a follow up appointment in a couple of weeks to discuss options?

Hi kerri

I to had a similar problem where my amh came back as 0.06 I'm 38 and to was told we would never had children even with Ivf as my egg quality was poor.
We decided to get a second opinion and went to a private Ivf clinic in central London who told us they don't work with amh results only with fsh. At the time back in October my fsh levels were also high at 12 but they said they would monitor me every month with blood test and when my levels were at their best they would then start the treatment as they do fluctuate.

For the first 3 months my levels kept rising and finally reached 15 which is when I started incorporating acuputure in to my routine. After 2 months of acuputure my fsh levels had dropped to 6.4 which is when the clinic decided to go ahead with the treatment. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant.

Sorry it's a bit long winded but ont give up hope.

All the best
Xx

Mine is one
CRGH would let me do natural IVF which we had as it was out NHS go
We then moved to Hammersmith who and staretd 3 goes there, 2 of which we got to egg collection and I am now 13 weeks pregnant.

AMH does not mean it is all over all it means that you have a limited supply of eggs and that for IVF you will need higher doses of drugs. It is not an indication of egg quality either you can have not many eggs but they can still be of good quality.

This is my blog where I have talked about it and there are some links to useful websites. thebarrenyears.wordpress.com/2012/01/03/amh/

Its a horrible diagnosis and probably where my lowest point on this whole journey

Thanks for your responses ladies and giving us a glimmer of hope. It's good to hear your success stories.

I think I'll have to a bit more research before our next appointment. It has definitely been a low point at the beginning of a long journey. Might also try acupuncture out.

Wishing you health and happiness with your pregnancies.

If you do try acuputure just make sure it's someone who has all the correct certificates and maybe specialises in infertility..Don't just go to anyone

Where in the uk do you live maybe my lady can recommend someone?

I also have a low AMH so looked into particular specialists in this regard. The Lister clinic has a couple of people who specialise in this area. I am seeing Mr Atalla out of the Harpenden Spire after a friend recommended him to me for his proactive, creative approach.

Re the acupuncture I am in London too and have tried a number of places. Physio in the city has a couple of people with fertility specialisms in different clinics and live in north west london where I can recommend a couple of other individuals if you are interested. The reason I have hopped around a bit is that acupuncturists seem to have very good work life balances ie they work short hours meaning it is difficult to find them outside working hours!

Just wanted to add a hopeful story. I measured 0.67 amh last September and was told i was "clutching at straws" by one specialist. I conceived 5 cycles later on super ovulation. My current doctor doesn't worry about amh. I had a miscarriage due to an embryo with Turner syndrome (nothing to do with my age or egg) so decided to try again. Had amh tested again and it measured 2.3 by then (?) and I conceived on first cycle! Now 8w pg so not out of the woods, but definitely don't write yourself off. I've been on acupuncture too, and I'm sure that helps. Good luck.

so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I hope your pregnancy is going well!
I am seeing an NHS specialist at the moment who is running every test going before going back to private clinic. Internal scan showed only two follicles which she said she would have expected to have seen at least 8! I'm new to all this fertility jargon so not even sure what it means. Back on the 30th for blood test results and holding out for a glimmer of hope.
Acupuncture definitely sounds worth a shot and will do some research, there is bound to be someone in the Glasgow area with miracle needles.

Now to decide whether to edge my beats use money for egg donor ivf or more risky try these drugs and my own eggs Confused ! Think I need a vino Wine !!!

Good discussion here, thanks for those positive stories, they do help alot when faced with infertility. I have no children ttc for 4 years, low AMH of 3 although FSH okay, however I have stage 4 endo with considerable scar tissue and was wondering, has anyone here tried Dr Zhai in Harley St? She is a TCM practitioner. I have been a few times but wasn't overly impressed (was expensive and had shared acupuncture treatment rooms). I'd be interested to know of others experience as I felt really rushed in appts and they weren't that engaging, and it seems you only get to see Zhai once but I am really not willing to write the clinic off as yet (as think it may still help when I start IVF) - so any feedback is welcome. Thx and wishing everyone here much goodnews.

Thought I would add another story of hope- I currently have a 4 month old asleep on my lap. At 37 I had an Amh of 0.05, fsh of 12 and afc of 4. Due to redundancy we didn't start ivf straight away but I researched a lot took Dhea and was pregnant within a month naturally. Unfortunately that ended in a mmc. We rallied and kept on trying naturally - cut out alcohol did a lot of yoga, many supplements zinc different amounts of dhea etc conceived 6 months later but had a chemical pregnancy. Unfortunately then my periods stopped for 4 months - told donor eggs by many drs. Devastated. Went to see the lister who again gave us donor egg speech. afc was 5 and was told I would ovulate in a day or so and had at least one good sized follie. We dtd a lot but no joy but it helped me work out I had a short lutuel phase tried 50 mg of b6 planning to up after the first month if no joy. I was pregnant within the month aged 39.

Amh is an indicator of egg volume but all you need is one good egg I did all I could for 3 years to adjust diet and supplements to get there. Although we never did ivf. So many supplements I probably rattled. My advice is to get to know your body and try all you can to up egg quality whether tcm etc I did try accupuncture but hated it.
I know I've been v lucky and we were coming up with a back up plan. But although low amh may feel like the end of the world more people than the drs suggest are successful it seems.

Ilikechocolatetoomuch afraid I'm based in Scotland so no experience of this clinic, why don't you look at the facts and figures on hfea site. If they have the best rests of clinics in your area I'd put up with the poor service! Thanx Andcakes I'm going to try everything Grin ! My FSH was 28.4 but think that can be lowered according to what I've read and try these drugs to improve quality of any eggs I manage to produce. Chinese herbalist acupuncture, dhea, yoga, vitamins here I come!!! Shock

Think we'll still need ivf as DP having reversal vasectomy after 10yrs so expected low motility...we're a right pair!!

I'm sorry that you are going through this. I had an AMH score of 0.07 when I had just turned 39, after the consultant was only able to see one (two at a stretch) follicles. I found the news devastating, but I needed to take control and dusted myself off, and started seeing an acupuncturist that specialises in fertility. I fell pregnant within three treatments, two months after being given my AMH result. That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage but a year later I am pregnant again and in the second trimester.

I wasn't impressed with my consultant, to say the least, but I suspect he didn't want to try anything because it would mess up his success stats. I could be wrong. My resulting pregnancies came about naturally. I'm not suggesting you take this route - my choices were very much affected by already having one young child and my PCT saying IVF was a no go meant that we'd have had to travel to London - the logistics and the emotional impact were not worth it for us (I turned into crazy woman just on clomid). I would support what Andcake said though, and get to know your body.

Wow amazing and congratulations! Yeah the docs leave you feeling like a write off and wondering where you're going to find the money for what they suggest. I'm going to look into acupuncture for fertility as like yourself I've heard of a few woman this has been successful for.

Thanks! With the acupuncture, for me it was a time that I could give into my hopes and fears about infertility as I had reached the stage in RL that I no longer wanted or felt able to share my feelings. That was driven by me, not by friends/family but it's how I felt. Plus I found it very relaxing. I've had other friends recommend reflexology as the way forward which I was all set to try.

Good luck. I found yoga even if it didn't help with ttc helped me mentally. That's not to say I was strong through it all but yoga gave me an escape. Although I remember a few classes when af had just arrived trying to fight back the tears.

Kerry, I echo AndCake's message that AMH measures ovarian reserve, not egg quality. I had AMH levels of 0.17 2 years ago (age 29 at the time) and was advised to egg freeze (was not trying to conceive at the time). I didn't react well to the meds, and only froze 4 eggs (1 mature). That said, I got married earlier this year, and conceived naturally on my second cycle, age 31. You just never know with these things.
Good luck with everything, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

hI everyone, im very new to this site and I must admit the stories i have been reading on here has been like a breath of fresh air: I did AMH test privately, whilst abroad and the result was devastating with 0.31, which doctors have summarised that with my results i wouldnt even be able to try IVF. Im now going to have more tests done next wk and be referred to a specialist hopefuly, can anyone relate to me? i would be very interested for shared stories. IS there anything, anyone can suggest? how do i increase my chances?

What age are you? DHEA if you are under 35 has helped some people improve AMH
