Excuse me as I don't really know all the jargon on mn!
I'm completely confused after being given conflicting advice- please help!
DP and I have been ttc for a year and a half. As far as the doctors are concerned, I'm ovulating, tubes aren't blocked, bloods all came back normal. The only issue is that my cycle ranges from 14 days to 36 days.
I've been doing ovulation tests for about 8months. They seemed to indicate that I ovulated straight after my period, on about day 7. We obviously focused our intercourse around that time, but we've had no luck. When I saw the consultant a few weeks ago, he told me that we should be focusing our attempts around day 14, saying that the ovulation tests I'd been doing at home 'didn't really mean anything'. He said we should be aiming to have sex about twice a week.
I'm now completely confused. As I have no idea when I'm ovulating, when should we be having sex?! And twice a week doesn't really sound like that much? Will it just be a case of every other day throughout my cycle? Or more often? We only have 3 rounds of Clomid left, so I need some specific advice!
Thanks in advance.

Is this a private clinic or NHS?. At 18 months plus of ttc it is likely that there is a definite fertility problem with either one or equally both of you.

They may well have missed some hormonal problem if your cycle is between 14 and 36 days; a "normal" cycle is between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days of variation from month to month.

What hormone levels were tested and when were these tests done?. Any test result done over 6 months ago should be discounted.

Do you feel like you have been adequately investigated as a couple to date; if not I would seek a second opinion from another subfertility unit via your GP. It is fair to say that in the NHS at least some units are far better than others.

Two or three times a week throughout the cycle is recommended re ttc; you certainly don't have to have sex every day in order to conceive.
I would seek a second opinion particularly if your man has not had any tests done to date.

Clomid is usually given to women who present with ovulation problems and you should be monitored closely whilst on it as it can affect hormone levels markedly.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers, it is too easy to be fobbed off.
