Hi
Can anyone tell me of any experiences on this. We have been TTC for 16 months now. Dec 11 Gynae confirmed right tube is blocked and IVF would be an option. However, a lap can be done to determine why the tube is blocked. But, he said that I cannot have the lap until I have lost a substantial amount of weight. I wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this from their consultations as I have read through the NICE guidelines and it doesn't mention anything about weight for a lap. I know you have to be a certain weight for IVF - any help would be great!
Thanks

No direct experience, but when I had my lap the hospital gave me an information booklet. It's likely to be for one of two reasons. If you are very obese the surgical instruments they use might simply not be long enough to reach as far as your tubes after penetrating through extra tissue. The other thing might be increased anaesthetic risk if you are very overweight.

Hope that helps.
