Just announced on BBC news.

hunkermunker Sat 06-Aug-05 19:03:20

Oh no! Heard he'd collapsed, but they weren't saying it was definitely him

How sad

PeachyClair Sat 06-Aug-05 19:25:31

That's sad, a good man who stood by his own personal beliefs.

jessicaandbumpsmummy Sat 06-Aug-05 19:29:19

sky news says heart attack.....

Janh Sat 06-Aug-05 19:30:34

Oh, it was on the news earlier that he'd collapsed up a mountain and they spent 40 mins resuscitating - it didn't sound good then - I will miss him (esp on Dead Ringers)

spacecadet Sat 06-Aug-05 19:31:59

good grief how awful.

Eugenius Sat 06-Aug-05 19:32:42

oh my! that's a shock

TinyGang Sat 06-Aug-05 19:33:40

Blimey.. Isn't Mo Mowlam also very ill in hospital?

MrsGordonRamsay Sat 06-Aug-05 19:35:14

You took the words right out of my mouth.

He wouldn't have been my cup of tea, but I truly admired his stance on Iraq.

sad - but if you have to go - then what a way to go - having just climbed a mountain in the highlands - a place that he obviously loved.

expatinscotland Sat 06-Aug-05 20:20:07

Damn, he was young, too

lilibet Sat 06-Aug-05 20:22:43

Very sad - always is when we loose some one with integrity.

QueenOfQuotes Sat 06-Aug-05 20:25:52

How awful, like others have said, a man with great intregity who stood by what he believed in.

franke Sat 06-Aug-05 20:31:39

Not only did he stand by what he believed in, but it looks like he was right too. I remember him saying "Iraq doesn't have WMD" as if the very idea was laughable, just before we marched into Iraq.

paolosgirl Sat 06-Aug-05 20:32:11

Very sad....I admired him for so many things. His refusal to be browbeaten by TB showed him to be a man of integrity. A good man

MrsGordonRamsay Sat 06-Aug-05 21:06:53

Keeping this bumped.

Robin Cook has died. Mo Mowlam is seriously ill. Two fine politicians who stuck by their principles and didn't kowtow to the Blair machine. Robin Cook exposed what most of us knew about the shameful lies which led this country into war. He will be missed by many, but not by Blair, I suspect.

Very sad. A man of principle and the government doesn't have many of them.
