This is getting a bit too close for comfort now.

Police have just carried out 2 controlled explosions on a bomb found in Luton train station car park - Police believe it to be related to last Thursdays events.

im assuming thats what SC is talking about.... cant believe it. Really pleased the police are getting somewhere with it though, all that concerns me is the statement about another terrorist attack will happen but we dont know when.....

Heck, I've got family down there - none of them should be near the station though - must phone home and check in.

I am just a short drive away too,and dh has his car parked there, where can he get a train to now?

Report
happymerryberries · 12/07/2005 18:03

They think that the car belonged to one of the four bombers. The controled dettonations on the car were linked to the investigations in Leeds and the arrest of one man there

The rumours are that the police are working in information provided. they have also isolated 4 men who were seen at Kings cross together. Personal items form them were found at the bombing sites.

The family of one reported him missing at 10 on the morning of the bombing.....I wonder if they had some idea of what he was planning (if he was IYSWIM as nothing is proved as yet)....10 seems very early to be reporting someone as missing

10??? REALLY???? They must know something surely.... all very dodgy to me. Agree with wondering how they manage to know this stuff tho!

But the positive thing is that the leads are said to have come from the muslim commumity

This is the news

that is positive.... just hope there is an end to this one day.

Here is a link from the BBC website.

I was driving past just as the cordoned the area off - i had no idea what was going on - rang DP to see if he knew anything but he didn't.
My Dad checked and told me what was going on.

No trains at all going through Luton until the area has been secured which they said may take 3 hours.
Where has your DH got to get to Ebbie22?

Radio 2 news said that evidence found in the wreckage of the bus had led them to the Leeds addresses and other links. The news also said that they think all 4 bombers died in the blasts.

It's been "too close for comfort" for quite a lot of people for some time, SpringChicken.

Report
Springchicken · 12/07/2005 18:30

I'm aware of that Soupy but i was talking about myself personally.
I have actually posted quite alot on the threads about the London Bombs and am pretty clued into as to how close it was for some people.

Train may stop at Luton Airport Parkway or if it doesn't get that close it might stop at Harpenden.

would it stop at st albans too do you think?

Report
Springchicken · 12/07/2005 21:02

Sorry Ebbie - hopefully you DH is home OK by now.
It would've depended what train he got on as to if it would have stopped at St albans.
The fast trains don't but the usual ones stop at every station.

What I can't understand is that they seem to have all the intelligence after the incident. Why not before?

Report
Moomin · 12/07/2005 21:17

think it has all come from the one bomber's family alerting police and all other evidence has been gathered from here, which didn't come to light until Thurs morning, of course.

oh my god. I used to live in Luton. I know that train station and the car park. I used to catch the train nearly every week on my way home from uni to my parents.

I've already posted about this tonight, but we live not far from Luton and it turns out the bomber was on dh's Thameslink train (next carriage). Very scary. Dh badly delayed on return journey tonight, along with everyone else. I really really wanted to keep ds up so dh could see him now we know what a near miss we had but unfortunately delays meant I had to put ds to bed. Dh rushed upstairs to see him, though.
Freaky thing is dh's train was delayed last Thurs am - the bombers must have been planning to detonate their devices earlier than they actually did.

Report
edam · 12/07/2005 23:29

VERY IMPORTANT - if any of you, or your dp's/dh's/anyone you know was on the Thameslink train that got into King's Cross at 8.30, can you call the police? Because trains were badly delayed they don't have an actual timetable for the journey, are trying to piece it together from passengers.

I have been out all evening and am finding it hard to amke sense what has happened. Have the police caught the terrorists? Has there been another bomb?

Sorry if I am being thick!
