BUSH "we will find and deal with the perpetrators" Is this going to mean another war??

Was just watching President Bush at G8 making a statement about the attacks on London saying he was standing by Tony Blair and that the US Gov would seek out and deal with the perpetrators.

Last time Bush was saying stuff like this it was afghanistan and then Iraq. Its got me worried now. DH is in the US Airforce based in the UK. Their alert status has just gone up. They have locked down the base and he not coming home tonight be the looks of it.

Amm really scared this will have long term repurcussions as well as the horror of today.

the alert status in most places goes up automatically the moment there is a terroist attack. Obviously until they are caught there is more risk.

Our security services have done pretty well up till now at catching people, wouldn't assume we'll need Bush's offer yet.

widely recognised that iran and syria are next on the hit list....

it's up to us to make sure that our leaders can't use our fear as an excuse for more illegal and immoral wars.

This is just the sort of shit he comes out with to justify his agenda. A man who clearly isn't compelled to seriously address the environment or world poverty isn't going to be seriously worried about this. It just plays to his nasty world dominance agenda.

The thing i am worried about Tatt is that Bush never feels the need to hang around for our say so on things. This may be just the excuse he needs to get things started in Iran and Syria.

I know security alerts raising is normal in this instance its Bush who worries me....

Wouldn't worry too much about Bush's comment right now. Feelings are always high straight after an event like this. When Blair said his bit at 12 o'clock about our determination being stronger than theirs, I almost felt like I was listening to a Churchill speech in WW2! I felt really proud and strong and it is the first time I have ever agreed with anything Blair has said! But that is the emotion of the moment talking. After the fiasco of the WMD and the last Gulf War, I should imagine TB will be extremely cautious about involving us in another conflict.

I found a group of finger puppets for ds called "axis of evil" - Bush is one of the puppets. Quite fitting all the way around I'd say.

Feel absolutely the same Sophable! When Blair was speaking he had that "I'm not quite sure what is happening but I am going to try and look serious and statesmanlike" look on his face. Frightening.

I would hope that Blair would be sensible and keep Britain out of it with anything new. Problem for me is we're a half english half american military family. For me if Bush delcares war on anyone thats it. Hubby is off....

I really hope its just talk.

Not that ID cards would probably have helped - I won't be at all suprsised if we find out the culprits for this henious (sp) attack were legally living in the UK, and would have 'qualified' for ID cards too.

Agree sophable about war and GeorginaA, yes, I bet this will be used to justify id cards - as if having an id card would stop a suicide bomber/other fanatic! I thought Blair's speech was just right actually, very statesmanlike, calm and reasonable.

For once I felt Blair did a good job with all he has said this morning. He did seem to be very statesman like.

I just can't imagine why they would do this. So much of the good G8 could have achieved could be ambushed. I have heard one comment that this tragedy is a great scapegoat for not getting the promises and action on Africa / Climate change / Millenium Milestones sorted as per Live8 pressure. I do hope that doesn;t happen.

I'm waiting for the first anti-Iraq war politician to say "I told you so".

However, like georgina says I suspect that it'll just lead to even more draconian "security" measures. It's a horrible horrible thing anyway, but I hope that the perpertrators are all found to be bona fide UK residents or tourists.

I also hope there is no backlash against communities like with 9/11. There is nothing that ID cards could have done as I bet these were UK born and bred citizens who did this. Anyone can be brainwashed. It doesn;t have to be asylum seekers or anything else. I have already heard a few comments. Ihope it doesn;t continue.

bush is the only thing that makes me glad blair is the pm...he may be an evil meglomaniac git...but at least he can speak, and do so without a smug grin playing at the corners of his mouth whether he's talking about gold of 2000 people dead...argh.

Neither Afghanistan nor Iraq are over. DH's colleagues are out in both places now. Still casualties still fighting. I know Bush has an agenda for the rest of his war on terror though.....

I know, sophable, but it's a serious point: it was one of the reasons why many were anti-war, but Blair will completely fail to make the connection.

is it possible to tell the truth without being accused of "point scoring"?

yes I think only people who are involved in the defence sector/forces realise actually how much ius still going on and how horrific the things are that the media are too scared to show us

sharklet it's really really great to talk to someone that has both US and military links but doesn't not buy into Bush's totally horrific agenda...
