Danyl Johnson on X Factor.

I just don't get why people have such a downer on Danyl Johnson, making him out to be hugely cocky and overconfident. He is one of the best singers on the show.
Reading the paper this morning, there seems to be a feeling of satisfaction that he got what he deserved.
He has consistently performed well, and I just don't get why the media want to give him such a hard time. He is a nice lad who lives in my village near Reading, and is getting all this stuff written about how awful he is. My DH and DD1 met him at the rugby a few weeks ago and he was absolutely lovely, not diva-like at all. DD1 went all girly and star-struck, and lost the power of speech. He was SO kind, he told her not to be shy, and they had a nice little chat. My DH chatted to him too, and says he was a really nice guy.
I just think its really unfair the way he is being portrayed.
And Cheryl and that whole deadlock business, I've gone right off her now. Used to think she was nice.
Sorry for the rant, don't know what came over me

couldn't believe he was in the bottom two...

Abitpearshaped are you Danyl's mum? Or agent? .
Only joking I'm just bumping the thread for the evening crowd. I live quite close to Arborfield and am supporting Danyl all the way as I do not believe the crap in the papers, they are just making stuff up to even the competition out a bit. As much as I love Simon he's being too smug about Danyl and it's not doing him any favours.

Dreadlock? Have I missed something?

I think that once the meeja have created an image of a contestant that they have little chance if shedding it. Why else would Cilla be seen as a lovely Liverpool lass when she is by all accounts a right mare?

I do feel sorry for Danyl. He has really bad press.

Why is this 'in the news'? Is he standing for PM? I might vote for him.

I think it is Simons attitude TBH, too cocky. Public dont like it, the more he talks the twins down the more people seem to vote for them....

pear i totally agree with you about Cheryl. Completely cowardly way out I thought, heaven forbid her fans think she is a bad guy

Would have done her more good if she'd had the guts to say Miss Frank were not the best. I thought they were supposed to choose from the performance of the save them songs? If so, Danyl was easily the winner

But then I don't like her anyway.

Dreadlock it was deadlock as in Cheryl voted for Miss Frank to take the vote back to the public.

LOL, that is what happens when MNetting on the iPhone. I thought she had dreadlocks.

It's mostly tweens and teens that vote on X Factor - so they'll vote for somebody like Lloyd even though he is dull as shit and can't sing a note - because he is cute.

Talent is largely irrelevant.

I don't get it either. I haven't seen Danyl say or do anything to suggest he is anything other than a nice person. Now Cheryl, on the other hand...

I was so shocked he was in the last 2, his performances were stunning. Even his last one though he must've felt like sh**.

I really like him and don't believe the media one bit. So what if he's bi?

Dp doesn't really watch X factor and he caught the twins...he thought it was a joke?

Agree that talent is largely irrelevant in these shows. On talent alone, there is no way that Danyl should finish out of the top 3. In fact, on talent alone, he should win it.

To me, he comes across as a nice person with a huge amount of talent and also a huge amount of passion for what he does. Why this should be perceived as arrogant, cocky, etc is beyond me. I think Louis's comment in the first show (that he doesn't have the "likeability factor") was calculated to put Danyl in exactly the position he was in on Sunday night.

I am hating the current comments on his looks, personality, etc.. Those are the things that should actually be irrelevant.

Well curiousmama..it is really isn't it?

A HUGE joke, and Simon C and his chums are laughing all the way to the bank because of the millions of 12 year olds who text in....

Hate to be the voice of dissent, but I'm afraid I really do find Danyl smug. He has an 'I love myself' smirk that is never far from his face. He may well be an absolutely lovely guy, but this is how he comes over to me. Thought Cheryl was right to leave it to the public vote, in fact I think it should always be left to the public vote as people (not me) spend a fortune voting for the people they want to survive.

He annoys me the way he opens his mouth to hit a high note and lolls his tongue out

I think he is lovely too - just don't get all the hostility.

Really gone off Cheryl this year. She acts like a moody bitch and looks like she is on some kind of tranquiliser. Really cold, nasty eyes she has....

Hmmm. I haven't read any of the press, so don't really know what's been said about him. Technically, he's far better than most of the the others and shouldn't have been in the bottom 2, but for me there is something missing. Not quite sure what, but he seems a bit samey (the 'just a reminder' clips all look the same - his mouth hitting the big note), and he doesn't seem to have much soul, iykwim. He just sings well.

Shame about Miss Frank. Saturday was the first time they'd sung at all well. Shoulda been the obvious J&E or Lloyd, but agree that he'll be getting the teen vote in bucketloads.

Agree re CC. She's a silly bint but I bet Scowell told her to do it - more of a cliff hanger doncha know?

Think Danyl's suffering from bad press. He is by far the best singer they've ever had on that show. It would be a travesty if he didn't win, but hey, they want publicity more than they want a star (he'll do it by himself after this anyway I suspect).

I wonder if its inverted snobbery he is a music teacher and the others are students/sing or work in bars etc. Just a thought as I agree its inexplicable he is one of the best two (the other being Jamie).

I haven't read anything about him but I don't like the way he acts all the way through the songs. He is like a mime artist without the advantage of silence. I hate his big tongue and his big mouth. I think he is a good singer and have no reason to think he isn't a nice guy but I can't look at the tv when he is on.

Gah. I am hating these stupid fecking comments (and threads) about someone's tongue. FFS, the man cannot help the size or shape of his tongue. Really pathetic.

Report
giggleloop · 26/10/2009 19:34

disclaimer

I'm not trying to claim I am not pathetic. It clearly is pathetic to be repulsed by someones tongue on tv. Still can't look directly at him though.

OK, it hurts me to say this but I don't think we can blame Cheryl for the way last night went - is there any question that Simon Cowell choreographs everything that happens on that show? He would have known exactly who would leave if it were left to the public vote which is why he told Cheryl to vote the way she did - otherwise, she'd have been told to keep Danyl in.
