Imagine carrying such a huge baby around when pregnant! Makes me feel quite relieved to be a few weeks off with a "normal" sized baby in there!

OMG. DH was huge when he was born (13lbs) but that is mahoosive.

DH was the same length as that though

at the caption on the photo. We kind of guessed that it was the baby on the right.

When I had DS the woman in the next bed gave birth to a 5kg baby. He was so big that they had to go and buy clothes as the hospital did not have newborn clothes to fit. I cannot imagine the size of the 8kg baby.

Does anyone know, is the baby likely to have longterm effects as a result of the diabetes of the mother/large birth weight?

There's a slightly increased risk of developing diabetes himself later in life (but hard to separate out precise effect).

DS was 10lb 5.5oz and I can remember the week I had him a 16lb baby had been born (that may have been in Indonesia, too) and made the headlines, because we were talking about it with the medical staff. But 19lb!

oh i hope he's ok! that's very heavy on 62 centimeters. my ds2 was that long, but not so heavy, 5.3k, 11lb 11oz. with mine the endless early feeding soon resolved into a great perk: he had a stomach the size of the average 3 month old and as soon as feeding was established, he did so much better on the night feeds than ds1. still had the evening cluster feeds to bore me rigid, of course.

My dad weighed 12 lbs and his twin sisters weighed 7 lbs each. I had a 10 lb-er myself. Big babies run in our family (no diabetes involved), but Christ, 19 lbs?!

I wonder if the baby's size has made them any money. Because if you've had three babies at home it is usually through lack of funds for hospital delivery. And in Indonesia it is usual to refuse to treat people and indeed to discontinue life-preserving treatment if the hospital does not believe the bill will be paid.
