I have forsaken the David Essex poster for the SLADE one on the back.

I was disappointed that there was no photo-luv story, though. Or were they in other magazines?

i don't think we got the magazine that much.

I've just been flicking through that over lunch. TBH I'm more fascinated by the ads.

Did you see the recruitment ad for Barclays (pg 28)? Luring Top of the Pops fans to the big city to work!

Also quite shocked at the ad for slimming/diet food (pg29)-surely Jackie was aimed at teenagers? Was there such an obsession about being thin in the 1970s?

i only noticed the ad for Anadin for period pain, and and Rimmel,
guess who fell for that ad?

will relook

Must have a look at the article.

I loved Jackie (before it went cartoony) and did have a David Essex poster.

Just sent DD off to the newsagent to get me a copy. And will probably do the same on Tuesday for Bunty - I loved that, especially the dress up dolls on the back.

my room was adorned with Bay City Roller posters, so i spose they must have come from Jackie.

I think the photo stories came in the following year or the year after when Jackie started having to compete with mags like My Guy and Blue Jeans. They had a complete redesign some time around then.
My 12-yr-old DD thought Jackie was beyond weird hilarious - especially the article about how to attract boys at the disco.

My 13 year old was GLUED to it all through lunch!

The thing I found a bit depressing was the realization that standards of literacy MUST have been much higher then - however much I argue that they weren't!

Can you imagine most 12 year olds managing all those words today?

dd (12) thought it was good,
strangely similar,
without comic strips

Slarty - Jacqueline Wilson worked for the company when Jackie was launched and claims the magazine was actually named after her.

David Essex - he was my pin-up when I was 10!

I don't remember the print being so small either, but my eye-sight was better then.

The photo stories were in Blue Jeans, weren't they?

We can read it under the table like me and my friends used to read it at school (until we were busted by the teacher)
