Groan. How I hate that phrase.

OMG what next 'Gooseberry not very able in the mind department'. Instead of Gooseberry fool?

UnquietDad Tue 08-Sep-09 17:27:37

It's beyond my Kenneth.

At the end of the meal one is presumably presented with a William. Which will, in a posh place, set you back a few Robert.

They're taking the Michael.

no ledodgy, surely it would be "intellectually challenged gooseberry dessert"

It wasn't done to be pc though, was it?

It was done because some people - and I would bet my last rolo it was blokes - kept making dick jokes.

The dick jokes probably got very boring, very quickly.

Between 1981 and 1988 I went to a Convent Boarding School in Sussex. Weekly menus were typed up and - yes, we had 'Spotted Richard'.

It actually made it into the Newspaper then smile

UnquietDad Tue 08-Sep-09 17:34:53

PeedOffWithNits Tue 08-Sep-09 17:39:45

PeedOffWithNits Tue 08-Sep-09 17:40:39

PortBlacksandResident Tue 08-Sep-09 17:42:12

My local shop sells a sort of custard tart called a 'Wet Nelly' - sounds soooo diiiirty.

PeedOffWithNits Tue 08-Sep-09 17:45:46

are we still allowed to call faggots by their name?

UnquietDad Tue 08-Sep-09 17:48:32

A "spatchcock" has always sounded a bit rude to me.

UnquietDad Tue 08-Sep-09 18:00:30

I have a vague memory of DW reading some school story in which they call a spotted dick an "eructated Richard"?....

southeastastra Tue 08-Sep-09 18:03:41
