Heard about POG on Radio 4 tonight and they played a clip of him talking about it- they thought he was a Cuban Communist!! Locked him in a room for 2 hours in Miami.

where is their any evidence that the immigration autrhorities were racist?

I don't know if the INS are racist. They just appear to hate everybody. I wouldn't fly into the US anymore if you paid me!

exactly. where is their any evidence to even suggest that this was racially motivated?

They are racist, they do this all the time. Last time I flew to the US, to Las Vegas, there was a group of young men travelling together, 9 white, and one British Asian, guess what, the Asian man got pulled out to be interrogated for hours, while his friends were free to go.

My friend, who is Asian, who was flying to Kingston (Jamaica) via Miami, said he was detained for hours in Miami, despite only being a transit passenger, and they refused to provide any justification for detaining him.

So he shouldn't have been questioned because he's some sort of cleb? He's no different to anyone else . I was in JFK a few months ago and the only person pulled for questioning was white, and there were a lot of Muslims in the line.

ah so there's anecdotle evidence then. case closed.
despite there being anecdotle evidence of similar things happening to white people, suach as paul o'grady, on this very thread.
and i was once detained in atlanta for 2 hours and i'm white.

i don't doubt that there will be some racists working with the immmigration department. but your thread title and the story you link have absolutely no relation.

an indian man was detained and questioned, that's quite clearly factually correct.
that this is the result of a racist immigration policy is absolute speculation and the article you linked gives absolutely no evidence or indication that there is a shred of truth to it.
even the man detained is trying to play it down. ""I think it's a procedure that needs to be followed, but an unfortunate procedure."

as was said above, the u.s. immigration authorities seems to hate everyone. for me your just looking for racism where there is none and it's completely reactionary and over the top.

It's pretty well documented actually, see for instance: [http://www.amnestyusa.org/racial_profiling/report/airport.html]] www.thelowell.org/content/view/1859/29/ etc.
