myths of breastfeeding

Just been sent this and couldn't find any discussion any here about it, which I was surprised about. Was quite interested to know what the general reaction was?

I thought it must have been discussed, just couldn't find it .

I am desperate to bf DC2, but this kind of knocked my confidence a bit. Just wanted to see some debate about it, to put it in context. It's all very confusing .

Thanks.

I couldn't find it last night but will have another look...

If you want help/advice etc with BF there are many very knowledgable people on here - I would strongly recommend starting a thread in the feeding topic with your concerns and you will get loads of help/support

OK I can't find it either! Sorry about that...

Seriously if you want a chat about all this stuff the feeding topic is your place. If you link the article there and say what your concerns are and that you want to BF etc you will get plenty of response I promise

Thank you Lovely, how strange that it's disappeared! At least it wasn't me going mad!

I find the feeding topic a little intimidating tbh. I failed hopelessly at bf last time so had to ff and find that it makes me feel even worse to be constantly told how bad it was for me to do this and how much harm I've caused . Hence why I found the article so interesting - gave some alternative views.

Still didn't make me change my mind though - def want to bf DC2!

Thanks again.

Wow...

Would LOVE to see the data on this.

Interesting that antibodies/improved immunity isn't mentioned.. (that I could see).

Expect if you googled the author's name you could come up with some more stuff.

Michael Kramer has been interviewed in various places spitting feathers that he was misquoted in some aspects and the whole point of what he said was twisted in others. He distances himself quite strongly from the views expressed in this article. If you do a search on "Kramer" you'll probably find discussion on that on these boards.

(Yes, if you search on "Kramer" on MN between 01/07/09 and today you will find a lot of discussion of this article and its aftermath)

gah, I'm an idiot. Forgot all this was mentioned in a thread I started a while ago here. It also linked to the independant article saying that he had been misquoted here

Glad someone is finally questioning it.

please read the feeding topic for tips and support, honestly people there do not look down on formula feeding. If someone does post an horrible comment they are jumped on straight away.

I could not have continued bf AT ALL had I not obsessively read stuff on there. I mix fed my first and it was through reading the feeding topic that I was able to continue breast feeding at all.

I was so much more confident that I could overcome any problems with feeding my second child thanks to the brilliant ladies on the feeding topic, in fact I feel I was considerably more informed than many of the midwives

Thanks for the links guys - have been reading up. Interesting about the allergies thing not being that strong cos that's one of the main messages I had picked up about the benefits of bf .

HC, maybe I'll try again but have had a couple of bad experiences that have put me off .
