We met a lovely Scottish couple on holiday in Italy and they used the word twat quite a few times in conversation with us.

We couldn't keep a straight face after about the 3rd use of the word but they told us its not considered a rude word in Scotland?

BTW if it is considered a rude word then David Cameron is definitely one!

Where i live it always meant someone who was a bit of a numpty ,i live in north yorkshire ,perhaps its a regional thing . I actually only realised it had another meaning after joining mumsnet ,still use it regularly though as old habits die hard
