from the BBC site

Sickening, isn't it? How could he do such a thing to a tiny little baby?

LaurieFairyCake Wed 29-Jul-09 15:35:40

there was a story on the Daily Mail website yesterday talking about a father who threw his 4 year old daughter off a cliff to avoid paying child support. sad

JJsandcat Wed 29-Jul-09 17:29:03

This is truly shaking me. How sickening. Words cannot describe its horror.

A new, innocent life, thrown away. How sad

exchangeandmart Wed 29-Jul-09 17:29:18

FabBakerGirlIsBack Wed 29-Jul-09 17:31:06

That child is nearly 2 years old now.

I wonder where he is living now.

CrushWithEyeliner Wed 29-Jul-09 17:56:34

TheChilliMooseISNOTFOREATING Wed 29-Jul-09 18:07:51

We can only hope that the child is with people who love him now.

This reminds me of when i was in hospital just waiting for my discharge notes & the lady next to me was waiting to go home too, well her dp was quite shitty cos she was going home & he shouted everywhere that 'no fuckin baby was going to stop him going out & getting pissed' & when the mum said they would have to feed the baby before they left he said 'fuck off i get fed first not that little bastard'.

It was horrible & made me want to go home all the more. The staff just let them go & i often wonder about that little boy.

Very sad.

TheChilliMooseISNOTFOREATING Wed 29-Jul-09 18:46:12

PM, i find your story truly shocking. how was that baby allowed to go home with that man? and tbh, why didnt you call the nspcc or even your social worker. Or demand the maternity staff do something?

protecting babies like this is almost impossible to do, if the families arent willing to do so themselves. and removing a baby from a family is again very very difficult to do.

serajen Thu 30-Jul-09 14:16:56

How did this guy get on to the ward to see the baby? There is a security system on maternity wards at all our local hospitals, you have to buzz, state who you are visiting and your name, surely they wouldn't have buzzed him in?

NormaSknockers Thu 30-Jul-09 14:21:49

Makes me sick to my stomach

edam Thu 30-Jul-09 14:31:17

Good grief. Poor baby.

I have no words.

This could, however, be SBS. I cannot really comment without further details.

There is now reliable evidence that SBS occurs spontaenously outwith the Amish Community (in which Glutaric Aciduria causes it to happen spontaneously).

The experts then assume that the baby has been shaken and this has caused the brain damage.

Apart from the problem with the miscarriage of justice this also causes the medical profession to avoid looking further at the issue.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor Sat 01-Aug-09 09:46:56

are you for real?

johnhemming Sat 01-Aug-09 14:24:17

The following case is one that went the other way.

Both retinal Haemorrhages and Subdural Haematomae have been identified to occur without any child abuse.

The story reported is clearly one that indicates SBS. The simple point is that SBS is not in itself proof of child abuse. Its elements do occur where there is no abuse.

Wikipedia has some information on this.

If anyone doubts this I can later provide links to research projects that have identified SBS triad elements as being spontaneous. I have discussed this with the researchers.

The case last week is very important as it could lead to another review for miscarriages of justice, but I need details of the case before being able to say that for certain.

Here is something about glutaric aciduria
