I know, 10 days whilst he went around emptying her bank accounts. Sicko, hope he stays in for MUCH longer than 8 years.

A minimum of 8 years means that he will serve 8 years at least - not the usual stupid half of that this Govt. has introduced in it's wisdom. After that time he'll be up in front of the parole board, and then either sent back to jail or on the first plane back home.

Of course, if the whole issue of illegal immigrants was taken more seriously in this country, it wouldn't have happened, but hey, what do I know...

Just saw her on the news and was amazed to see that she has apparently kept the car; she was showing it to the reporter.

If it were me I don't think I'd ever want to see the car again!

Paolo - and what exactly do you expect them to have done.

He was deported and managed to get back into the country using his brothers passport. As far as immigration was concerned he was who the passport said and he was allowed entry. That's is not the fault of the illegal immigrants or aslyum seekers in this country - that is the "fault" (if we must blame someone) of immigration for not spotting that he was not who the passport said he was). Presumably his brother had a visa to visit/stay in the UK and so one can only guess that as far as they were concerned (looking at the passport they had in front of them) he was allowed to enter legally.

I think he should be torn limb from limb, beaten about the head with the limbs that have been torn off and then deported.
She does seem amazingly calm and humane about it. If it was me, I would be a gibbering, manic wreck who wanted him torn limb from limb, etc etc etc.

I thought she was in a saloon car. Why did she not manage to kick the flimsy boot cover off? Unless he had her trussed up like a chicken.

FAQ - what I expect this Govt. to do is resource immigration properly and give them the means to deal with this issue. And yes, it is also the fault of the illegal immigrants (who, by the way, should not be lumped in with asylum seekers as it's a completely different issue) - they are here against the law. All criminals must take responsibility for their actions.

yes I am fully aware that it's a totally different group of people asylum seekers/illegal immigrants (we've obviously not been on the same immigration threads or you'd no I'm quite, ermm vocal on the issue of the differences between them ) I'm just wondering how this is the fault of the illegal immigrants.

As far as immigration were concerned he was who the passport said he was - his brother - who we can only assume was allowed to enter the country legally.

Not sure what can be done in cases like this. In fact I was wondering just a few days ago what stops (for example) identical twins using each others passports. Or even a "look-a-like" - how do they prove it's their passport and not someone elses if the pictures are the same/similar (I look different now to what I do in my passport but still got through immigration no problem 3yrs ago using my proper passport).

I am also not arguing about the fact that criminals must take responsibility for their actions - that rather goes without saying. (but still not sure what the link is with illegal immigrants in general)

Biometric passports might be one answer. I know that everything is open to identify theft, but perhaps they could alleviate a lot of the abuse.

The link with illegal immigrants is that if he had been stopped before he entered the country he wouldn't have been able to commit this crime, but sadly immigration service simply enough well enough resourced to deal with the numbers that are coming through, and the numbers that are here already.

The fault lies with here with the illegal immigrant - not the person who allowed him in on good faith. It was Ngema who committed both crimes - entering illegally and kidnapping this woman. The immigration official had no direct part - the Govt. perhaps, Ngema definitely, but not the person doing their job to the best of their ability given the very limited resources.

but you can be a perfectly legal immigrant when you enter the country and become one (illegal) by not leaving when you should. (as many British people do in Australia - we're the worst nationality for doing that in Aussie you know! - or at least we were a year or so back!).

Saloons don't have 'flimsy boot covers' - the boot is completely separate from the car's interior so you can't get from one to the other. Plus she was bound and gagged. I don't think she's have stayed in there by choice!

She was bound and gagged, it took her several hours to chew through the sellotape around her mouth so she could yell. She's an amazing strong woman who has an incredible capacity for forgiveness.

Perp is being deported once he's done his sentence!
