the garda is awaiting sentencing having plead guilty to making false statements to the gardai. she claimed she was attacked by a taxi driver to pay him back for giving him a "dirty look" and ripped up her own dress to substantiate her claims.

what do others think is a reasonable punishment? i think dismissal should be a given, but i'm not so sure about a jail sentence.my instincts would say she should serve time. i mean she abused her power and if she kept persued her lie then she could have ruined the taxi drivers life on the basis of a perceived slight. but she's plead guilty and i dread to think what would happen to a garda in jail.

I think she should have thought of that herself beforehand. The taxi driver might have ended up in prison.

Then again I don't believe that prisons should be dangerous places for anyone. We should sort that out anyway.

i think getting the sack is enough. she is obviously a loon and needs help.

yeah can see your point.and chances are she wouldn't serve it in a dangerous prison as it's a non-violent crime.

That is an extreme reaction to a 'dirty look'.

I'm not sure who would benefit from a jail sentence either.

i'd be in favour of a suspended sentence. i definitely don't think that dismissal should be the end of it, as she didn't really commit the crimes in the course of her duties, but it's obvious she was relying on her connections to make her lies become a reality.
