Just read the 'big 3's 2005 manifestos and I'm totally confused.

I'm really not keen on the Tories in principle, but by rights I should probably be a blue, due to my family's lifestyle and income.

My personal beliefs are more socialist, and so perhaps I should be left wing (as I would consider myself to be) ?

The biggest problem is that I am pro certain policies from each of the big 3 (with Con trailing behind significantly).

I feel very unsure as to where I should put that little cross on my ballot paper. I don't want to waste my vote, but I also want to be pretty confident of the party I choose.

Confused

decide on the 3 issues that matter most to you (they may not be the ones that directly affect you the most) and go according to that. if that doesn't work do top 5.

hth

by the way, imo, if you are socialist, the last thing you want to be doing is voting new labour

Thanks . I'll try that.

Thanks for that link grumpyfrumpy, it was very helpful indeed.

Well, I've just completed a very basic 'test' using the BBC link GF gave. I made a table with 3 columns, one for each of the big 3, and then went down the BBC summary of the issues & related policies, putting a mark in the column of the party that had the policy closest to my own feelings on the matter. Labour came out on top, but it was a very closely run race (although the blues were still trailing behind). I then did as sophable suggested and chose my 3 'top issues' (for me, Health, Education & Crime). Labour won 2 out of 3 and LibDems won the other.

I guess that has confirmed my left-wing tendencies and I feel much more confident about my vote now, so thank you all very much

Choose the party you think have lied the least in their manifesto. Probably Monster Raving Loony is the only option then.
