What do you think about celebs looking brilliant days after giving birth?

Apparently the papers are full of pics of Victoria Beckham looking amazing today. I've got to go on a radio station and spout about pressure on new mums to get back in shape etc. etc. (being a talking head is occasionally part of my day job). Happy to do that, but thought I'd ask you guys for your opinions. I was going to say something about how depressing it is that some celebs feel the need to hide away for months until they can emerge, looking like their pre-pregnancy selves. And that the rest of us, who can't afford personal trainers and dietitians, feel we've achieved something if we manage to get dressed when we are coping with a newborn, let alone looking fit for the paparazzi!

The difference is that we normal people won't have photos of our flabby post pregnancy selves splashed across the papers.

Can you imagine the press field day had VB appeared looking like the rest of us do post baby??

I feel a mix of jealousy that they've managed it and relief that I wasn't under pressure to achieve that.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to hide away for months though? No school runs, no supermarket shops,...

I don't think she was ever pregnant

If Closer magazine this week is to be believed VB is on a very strict three food diet. Oily fish, bananas and occasional portions of rice if she gets really desperate. Apparently after a week she can change to chicken and change the piece of fruit to some strawberries.

Oh and apparently although she can't do any exercise yet after her section she is doing a little yoga.

If Closer is to be believed she put on 2 stone this pregnancy.

and has lost a stone of it already.

They would look like us too(ie human) if they didn't have so much backup.

Anyway, I'm all for looking your best, but at certain times, it seems a bit self obsessed to be quite so flawless. I like the way new mums look dishevelled (ok tired!), but glowing, triumphant and pre-occupied. It shows they've been through a lot to achieve a great thing. It's not normal to look like you just stepped out of a salon

If I had her money and her nannies I would have shifted my weight just as fast. Not to mention a chef and a diet expert on hand. Anyone of us can do that if we had all the she had.
So I'm not jealous at least not for a second and then I can go back to dreaming.

I do look brilliant within seconds of giving birth. However, I strictly confine myself to listening to the opinions only of those I have just given birth to.

I like what TinyGang says about new mums

Don't these women all have tummy tucks at the same time as their caesarians anyway?

I think carrying that whopping great diamond ring around all day probably helped Posh shed a few pounds.

I am a person who always had a fast metabolism, could eat anything, do nothing and yet still maintain a slim, toned figure. Naturally I was told that when I'd had my baby I'd shrink right back down instantly by pretty much everyone. I was 20 when she was born so I was also told I had 'youth on my side'.... 2.8 YEARS on I'm still a stone heavier than a damn sight more wobbly than pre-pregnancy. In fact it's only pretty recently that I've managed to get down to 1st over pre-preg weight, I've lost a stone over the past few months. No special diets or anything, I just think that it took my body & metabolism much longer to recover than preg and birth than I anticipated.

In all honesty, I'm not remotely concerned by celebs who have babies and return to the scene weeks later with a 'perfect figure'. Bollocks to that, the majority have had countless hours of training and diet advice at HUGE expense, missing time with their babies and all just to fit in a size 8 frock on the red carpet.... Frankly I'd rather have been sitting on the sofa in my sz16 pjs 3 weeks post birth....

I feel so sorry for celebs in that they have to live upto an almost impossible image. It must be really hard for them to have to maintain a high level of looking perfect all the time, I bet they wish they could pop down the shops in jogging bottoms and no makeup sometimes but if they did they'd have the pictures in the mags and be slatted 'celebs looking a mess' then we all look at the pics and feel better about ourselves, they are only people after all. There's having a nice figure and then there is the horrible sad extremes that some people feel they need to go to, to have that figure

I've just been whacked around in a particularly nasty emergency CS. Couldn't find my scar for days as it was buried beneath my pet fat fold.
Made it to the gym yesterday, only to check it was still there.
Edam, on behalf of Da Sistahood, please can you make the point that yes, she may have a flat stomach, but she always looks so bloody miserable. Also, they're all airbrushed to buggery. I hate the whole 'Celeb' thing but gotta 'share' that an edition of 'Heat' will always call to me in a waiting room

If the photos of Victoria Beckham are the best that can be done with airbrushing, personal trainers, dieticians, full-time nannies, etc., imagine what could be done with the rest of us. She is not a beautiful woman, IMO. It never occured to me to be envious of her. I have envied Demi Moore when she was PG or whatshernameagain, uh, the wife of Michael Douglas...
