-prisoners creating 'wildlife haven' (also an entire page)

-the dying art of the pub sign

-two pages (two!!) on shit Saturday night shows)

-an entire page on a middle ages french woman who shagged a black rap star and 'scandalised' Paris.

God, you're so right about non-news. How can it weigh half a ton and still not contain any news?

I thoroughly recommend not buying it - I've been not buying it for nearly two years now and haven't missed it at all. Whereas I become very anxious if it gets to about 3pm and I haven't yet got my Guardian.

Business as usual, then.

Feeling vindicated that part of my plan to fend off impending poverty involves never buying useless, pointless 'news'papers again. Although I suppose I could always use them as insulation so I don't have to put the heating on...

I lost faith in the Obs when they started producing that pile of unmitigated sexist shite that is the 'Woman' magazine. Argh. And paying Polly Vernon. Arghargh.

can someone explain the point of these Polly vernon articles. Sorry cannot be arsed to read any. Cocktail reviews in pubs that's it right?

Today was a new low for the Obs but I can't face the Sunday Times, too many supplements. And the Sindy is boring and has even less news. Think I'm left with the Torygraph.

I stopped buying daily papers and the Observer about a year ago after realising I was spending £300 per year on them.

However, I do pop round to my local newsagents on Sunday evening and get the bits he has put in his recycling box so I have a TV guide.

Torygraph awgful (although read religiously in week) There is a new opening for quality Sunday newspaper. Somoenoe needs to let this lot know that quantitiy does not equal quality.

Oh, and if am given another CD, DVD or ridiculous booklet telling me hoe to write poetry/appreciate art/enjoy wine/build a composting toilet i shall scream.

Observer used to be OK but knobs at the Guardian sacked the (award-winning) editor as part of some internal politics that the Guardian editor won.

I dunno edam, I thought it was just as bad under RA.

Why can't they just make it better. I mean, regardless of whether or not one actually likes the Guardian, it's a damned good paper (in the sense that the Mail is and the Sun is) - self-confident, innovative, has it's own tone and responsive to its readers. Why does the Observer get it so badly wrong?

lol - had never heard it called that by yes - spot on! Its one of those I only read if i need something to while away the time a supermarket queue - can't imagine why anyone would pay real money for it. (Or the Guardian, either, for that matter)

It ran an article entitled 'Am I Too Old For Clothes'

The actress playing the doctor is Natascha McElhone, and the husband who was the doctor is Martin Kelly, who died at 43 of a massive heart attack on their front doorstep quite recently. Their third child is due to be born shortly I think.
She used to be a Mumsnetter.
Her husband did a great deal of good though his charitable foundation, Facing the World. He and another plastic surgeon went to developing countries to treat children born with severe facial deformities.
There is a lot of dross in the Sunday papers true, but reducing her usually thoughtful and intelligent interviews to this level is a bit mean really.

This news just in: roger alton is an utter fool. In fact, he put the 'knob' in 'Knobserver'.

'Pictures of semi-naked women basically make the world a better place.'

Oh god, the whole interview is just full of embarrassing crap.

Readers of the Independent: your newspaper is about to get a whole lot shitter. Bad luck.

Agree with Marina, I have a lot of respect for Natasha McElhone and her late husband - but I was pretty astounded that the article was the whole of page three - surely more suited to a supplement.

Fully agree with Moondog on the rest.
