Amazing story, positive for a change - her mother must have practically lost hope.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne Fri 12-Sep-08 17:50:31

Very odd tho that the mother can remain awaitng the results of DNA? Would think she would be on the next plane and begging to be alowed to see her thru a two way mirror? Surely she would recognise her own daughter without the DNA?

Maybe she's scared to hope after all this time. Hope it's her.

TinkerBellesMum Fri 12-Sep-08 18:27:25

I'm confused - she went missing when she was 4 in 1991?

TinkerBellesMum Fri 12-Sep-08 18:28:18

The kidnapper was only 13 when she kidnapped her...

LittleBella Fri 12-Sep-08 18:28:33

I imagine she's had a lot of false hopes before MrsG.

TheFallenMadonna Fri 12-Sep-08 18:28:38

By the sounds of it there has been false hope before.

No - Ben Needham disappeared in 91.

Let's hope it is her. The poor parents must have had numerous false hopes.

Why are gypsies notorious for child stealing? Why would they?

LittleMyDancing Fri 12-Sep-08 18:29:37

no, in 2004

of course they're waiting for DNA tests - you wouldn't start the whole process of getting the mother on a plane unless you were sure it was her, I reckon. She's seen a video of her and is sure it's her though.

I'm not a praying sort of a girl but <<prays>>

ClairePO Fri 12-Sep-08 18:32:26

Tinkerbellesmum Ben Needham went missing on Kos, the island where this girl has been found, in 1991. This little girl went missing in 2004 the article says.

NutterlyUts Fri 12-Sep-08 18:33:49

What an odd position to be left in in terms of bonding and family relationships. I hope it is her, but I wouldn't want to be in that position

TinkerBellesMum Fri 12-Sep-08 18:50:01

OK, misread it blush I'm rather tired at the moment

wannaBe Fri 12-Sep-08 20:39:16

it's not her

She must have hoped a little, I imagine she must feel awful right now all over again. I don't know how anyone can kidnap a child.

cornsilk Fri 12-Sep-08 20:42:58

The poor woman.

SorenLorensen Fri 12-Sep-08 20:48:42

Such a sad story - but also very traumatic for the real mother of the little girl, she was arrested and must have been terrified too to have people saying her daughter might not be hers/DNA tests etc.

SparklyGothKat Fri 12-Sep-08 20:53:20

but why are they calling her 'Italy's MM' Her name is Denise Pipitone!! I wish the media would stop comparing every missing child to MM. They are different children.

thisisyesterday Fri 12-Sep-08 20:53:25

how sad what a beautiful little girl she is.

I cannot imagine anything so awful as not knowing where your child is

SorenLorensen Fri 12-Sep-08 20:55:44

Good point, SGK - it belittles Denise Pipitone's parents pain, imo.

exactly sparkly. Esp as she disappeared before mm. hmm

I would have thought that after 4 years she would have lost some of her grasp of italian, esp as she was so young when she went missing. If you don't speak a language, even your own language, for a long time then it does deteriorate, especially when you are young.

I went to an afrikaans speaking school and although I spoke english to my parents over the phone/in the holidays, that was the only english I spoke and the rest was Afrikaans. I can honestly say that my afrikaans was far, far better than my english, although my english wasn't bad I just thought in Afrikaans etc as it had become my first language. I imagine that if I spoke no english at all it would have deteriorated signifficantly over 4 years.
