here

Now, I'm not a fan but I hope she makes a full recovery.

and I hope that all you who wrote this off as a publicity stunt feel thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.

Why is this news?

Report
chapstickchick · 12/09/2008 08:33

i think its news because she is young woman with 2 small children in the public eye-itsa devastating verdict for anyone but it highlights the need for regular smear tests and awareness of symptoms amongst younger women- cancer is not age discrimatory- we are all at risk.

I don't think one should be ashamed at having considered that it might be a publicity stunt, her entire career is based upon publicity and Max Clifford has pulled some interesting stunts in the past! But that doesn't stop me feeling sorry for her, it would have been so much better if it actually had been a publicity stunt. I've no interest in her as a celeb, but wish her well as another human being.

LIZS · 12/09/2008 08:49

Very sad, wish her a positive outcome, but why does the public need to know. Yes she is in the public eye through choice but this is highly personal information and she cannot possibly be in the right frame of mind to determine rationally what the press should know - even via pr, publicist , agent or whoever. Leave her to deal with the crisis in hand privately and to focus on what is important now.

Report
pococonejo · 12/09/2008 08:51

Sadly LIZS, I think you can pretty much guarantee that Clifford is negotiating "my brave cancer battle" stories with the papers right now. It's her source of income, it's her oxygen, I don't think she knows how to live privately anymore

I feel very sorry for her and for anyone having a hysterectomy so young. Thank God she had her children early. However, I wouldn't blame anyone for being skeptical when it was announced as the way in which she was told in public was totally inappropriate and it was hard to believe that something so real and so serious would be dealt with like this.

I wouldn't wish what she is going through on my worst enemy.

But of course it's a publicity stunt. Not the cancer, but the way in which it is being reported.

If this was being made public in order to raise awareness then it wouldn't be made public for some time, until JG was well on the road to recovery, then a statement could be released stating that "jade Goodie has revealed that she has been recovering from cervical cancer, and has urged women that screening is vital" etc etc.

But now the public will be following her journey through treatment (through the tabloids and the trashy mags obviously), and they will (her agent hopes) begin to see her as a brave woman who is battling cancer, and everything she's done in the past will seemingly be forgotten.

JG is an immensely disliked and unpopular woman, the whole celeb BB fiasco pretty much ended her "career" (if being a contestant on a reality tv show can be considered a career) and this might possibly bring her back.

I don't know who is making these decisions for her though as I can't imagine that she can be in any state to be thinking about publicity, but I am 100% certain that the only reason this is being made public knowledge is for publicity sake rather than awareness.

There is a group on Facebook called

"Jade Goody is a loathsome whore. Her innards should be fed to wolves"

Nice.

Oh dear. Poor woman
Same here Soupy, have not really followed this story as am not a fan, but what an awful situation for a young mother.

Why should anyone be ashamed of expressing their opinion?

LOTS of people get cancer. It's sad and horrible.

But Jade's advisers have been trying everything to revive her 'career' since that fracas in the Celeb Big Brother house, after all.

Marina · 12/09/2008 09:25

Oh Wannabe, as littlelapin says, Jade is being manipulated by unscrupulous and mercenary advisors. If there is any tinge of publicity stunt in her diagnosis and treatment I really feel it cannot be coming from her

Report
wannaBe · 12/09/2008 09:34

who the hell has enough time on their hands to create groups like that.

Marina I don't doubt that, but it's publicity none the less. And the kind of people that read ok and hello just aren't bright enough to realize that this is just exploitation of someone's misfortune for financial gain.

And the kind of people who have the inteligence to realize that this is exploitation aren't suddenly going to like Jade Goodie just because she's had cancer.
